Buckeye fans got a special treat Saturday afternoon at the Colony Square Mall.

Doug Worthington, Thaddeus Gibson, Ray Small and Laurence Wilson from the Ohio State Football team were signing autographs at the Cardboard Heroes store from noon until 1:30 pm. People waited in line outside the store for the autographs to begin and OSU player Doug Worthington says it is a great experience to meet the fans that cheer their team on.

"They keep us going, the city of Columbus, just Ohio in general. We just love playing for them and just the Buckeye nation is tremendous," tells Doug Worthington.

All four of the players are headed to the NFL draft, but they are all still on cloud nine from the team's Rose Bowl win on New Year's Day.

"It was a blessing, it was a great game, we didn't have a chance with a lot of people thinking that we were going to lose and what not, so it was just great to prove the doubters wrong," says Worthington.

East-West Shrine practice begins
Day one notes: Who looked good, who didn?t.

ORLANDO -- It was a padless practice for both sides on Monday at the East-West Shrine Game, but the National Football Post still has plenty to report and break down from the opening day of workouts.

Ohio State DL Doug Worthington

Purdue DT Mike Neal and Ohio State DL Doug Worthington both made good first impressions on me Monday. Neal is a natural bender who displays an explosive first step and good power on contact, while Worthington looks like one of the most technically sound defensive linemen here. He does a great job staying low and balanced out of his stance while extending his long arms into contact, and even though he might lack ideal bulk to hold up inside at the next level, at nearly 6-5 and 288 pounds, he projects nicely as a potential five-technique guy.

espn disagrees...

DT Doug Worthington lacked explosion and pop off the ball. He's kind of a one-speed guy and not changing it up. He's high out of his stance as well. We'll look for more from him during the team period.

Doug Worthington is projected to be a very late pick in the draft at best and nothing in those articles changes that opinion.

I am not referring to his raw ability or athleticism, merely speculating on the ability of the anonymous 'scouts' ability to determine whether he is "high out of his stance."
