Do You Donate Blood?

I try an give twice a year. We're told that all the new troops in basic training USAF are giving blood. The blood bank on base, keeps us inform if the blood type shortages in the Gulf region.

I donated about six months ago, then when I tried to donate again recently, I was told that a recent trip to an african country 'where malaria is found' means i'm can't for give blood for another 12 months.

The last time a donated plasma I was kicked out and told never to return...It was the wrong color. The guy next to me made a bid deal out of it, bastard. From what the nurse said, I guess I have pure sour cream running through my veins...

- I imagine the folks that give blood are, by some correlation of Murphy's Law, the same people that probably won't ever need it. Conversely, the folks that DON'T give blood are usually the people that will eventually need it.

So with this logic, I donate. Not as often as some on this site seem to. But once or twice a year, when I have time. (and I see the ad...)

I did once... they took two bags from me becasue I was "big and could handle it"... I was messed up for days and couldn't walk for hours after it happened (I had to lay down on a cot until I would wobble out)... I felt betrayed, and will not do it again unless it is for a friend, family member, or myself...

i always seem to have just gotten a tattoo when it comes around (chruch drive, at the office, ect). I used to donate in highschool just to get out of classes, may-b i should have stayed and learnt sumthin?

Not sure I would accept blood either if needed. There are so many alternatives these days that I think I would try those routes first.
