Do You Donate Blood?

I don't give blood because I hate needles.

I'm not an organ donor because I don't want doctors to be given the opportunity to weigh my chances of, or future quality of, living against someone else who might receive my organ. Maybe I'm paranoid or maybe it makes me a bad person, but I don't want to leave my life to the volition of another person's morality.

I donate just to make sure I havent contracted any diseases, if it passes, then I am in the clear.

I also "know" a chick that works for American Red Cross, so after donating blood, I donate millions of little kids, just to make sure everything is working ok.

Tried to sign up during the Beat Michigan blood drive during freshman year, was turned away due to a heart defect.

I do donate plasma though. I would guess if you're OK with the level of pain that comes with giving blood, you'd be OK with plasma, as it is essentially the same process.

The actual procedure to extract the marrow during the transplant is the painful part. Finding out if you can save a life with your marrow is no worse than any other blood draw.

If your local bank offers the double red cell donation you could consider it. The needle is half the size of the regular one and it takes only about 10 minutes longer than a regular donation. You'll barely feel the stick b/c the needle is so small.

You have over 4 quarts of the stuff and you make more every minute. A pint won't hurt ya.

If your local bank offers the double red cell donation you could consider it. The needle is half the size of the regular one and it takes only about 10 minutes longer than a regular donation. You'll barely feel the stick b/c the needle is so small.

Even better, you only go in once every 16 weeks instead of every 8.
