DL Michael Bennett (National Champion)

You do not take a DT prospect the likes of which we have dreamed about having for years and use him to plug a temporary hole in the OL. IF (Big IF) the staff feels moves are necessary, there are much better candidates.

At first look the answer might be NO. However, I think that it is an option that the coaches might consider. Even Heacock, when introducing him, said he was more productive on the Offensive side of the ball but they see tremendous upside on the Defensive side.

Out of all the guys we brought in, to me Bennett was easily the best OL in the group. And it wasn't even close. That includes Walker. Watch his film. He dominated in the trenches. He was a beast. That's why Leming had him as the #2 OG in the Nation. Leming is wrong on a lot of things, but not this one.

Personally, I would not be upset to see them put MB on the OL. Farris and Hale are two solid DT coming in and with Simon, Hankins, Geobel and Bellamy we are set there for the next few years. It would definitely be a loss not having Michael on the Defensive side of the ball, but the upside of him being a 3 years starter on the Offensive side might outweigh it.

This is truly an interesting case. I saw him play in person 4 times last year and he absolutely dominated on both sides of the ball.

On offense he has the mean streak and is always looking to not only finish his block, but also move on to the next level and crush that kid too.

On defense he has the type explosion I have never seen from a 275 pound kid. Every play he gets penetration...every play. That would cause havoc to any opposing offense.

It also needs to be said that Centerville is a triple option team. His run blocking is outstanding but he has probably only pass blocked in a game 20 times in his career and that includes plays where it is a halfback pass.

Either way this kid will be a great one in a few years and will be very fun to watch. Also keep in mind that Centerville has an outstanding strength and conditioning program which is part of the reason AJ was able to come in and compete right away. MB will obviously need to add strength but once he can practice defense 100% of the time and learn the position...watch out.

Impact DT > Impact OG any day of the week for me, and twice on Saturdays.

But then again, I'm extremely underqualified to be an OSU coach.

2 way player a la Chris Gamble?

I kid... I'm really hopeful that Bennett can be as disruptive on the DL as he has shown in HS.

Sitting this one out

Bennett attended Team USA?s 21-14 defeat of the World Team at Austin Westlake High School in Texas on Wednesday.

He broke his left arm in last month?s U.S. Army All-American Bowl at San Antonio, Texas, and was unable to play in the 19-and-under game held at Austin, Texas.

He?s expected to make a full recovery and even throw the shot put and discus this spring, events in which he has qualified for state the last two seasons.

Bennett looking good

Centerville?s Michael Bennett seems to have recovered from a broken left forearm suffered Jan. 8 in the U.S. Army All-American football game.

The 6-foot-3, 275-pound lineman is headed to Ohio State on a football scholarship. He also is one of the state?s best Division I shot-putters and discus throwers. He looked strong Saturday in the season?s first track meet, throwing the discus 165 feet, 4 inches and the shot 56-1 1/4 at the Centerville Elk Relays.
