DL Chris Carter, Jr. (Official Thread)

For the life of me,I do not understand why this guy is not being utilized. He looks like an SEC linemen, and got excellent push when he did play. I hope this guy continues to work hard and kick ass when the opportunity presents itself

WTH does the SEC have to do with a gifted lineman? This is the crap that stirs up the thinking that the SEC has better players than the Big Ten or any other conference top tier conference.

He's not even from an SEC state, he's from Cleveland. Chris Carter looks like a solid Big Ten lineman to me.

The one thing that sets the SEC apart from the Big Ten IS their DL...huge guys who can move and lots of them. It's not a myth, just look at the draft for the last 5-10 years. Anyways, that is not the debate here.

Carter could be an asset but he has to learn the position. Sure he can create disruption and is a load but running up field like a wild man does not make you a great DT. Once he learns the position and his assignments, I am sure he will get significant PT, especially if Hank leaves. Adolphus is a great 3-tech and I am sure Hale will play some 3-tech, but a rotation of Schutt and Cater at the 1-tech seems likely to me. He will need to step it up and learn quickly imo though...with Washington already passing him and seemingly Schutt, you also have Hill, Sprinkle, Price, and possibly Bosa (DE or DT) coming in looking for early PT at the position.

Whoa, Relax bro,I feel you, but when I said that I was thinking about the DLinemen from UGA and how Carter would fit right in physically. I'm B1G all the was but the difference between the B1G and the SEC are the bigs (why do you think we went undefeated this year?) we dominated on both lines,we were more physically imposing than any other team we played. And as far having better players...they kinda do...(remember his isnt a tOSU sec thing but the whole B1G)

OSU spring -- Carter example of players being pushed
By TIM MAY

Urban Meyer lays it out there when we media have a chance to speak with him. For example, on Tuesday when I asked about the progress of defensive tackle Chris Carter, Meyer didn?t dance around the expectations this month of spring drills for the big man.

?Spring practice is to develop scheme, but more importantly to develop guys,? Meyer said. ?At some point, with free training table, we?ve got to get something back.?

Carter was moved from the offensive line to the defensive line this time a year ago with the intent of seeing if he could become an A-gap stuffer. At a listed 341 pounds, he showed flashes of potential, especially in the 2012 spring game, but drifted into the shadows of the depth chart in the fall.

During the short-yardage and goal-line scrimmaging the media got to watch Tuesday, the third-year sophomore was thrust into the lineup several times by defensive line coach Mike Vrabel. Carter made some plays, and he got blocked on some plays. But he stuck his nose in there every time.

?At some point you?ve got to give back to the program and play,? Meyer said. ?So we?re force-feeding some guys.?

Ohio State football: Cleveland JFK's Chris Carter drops 60 pounds to get into better shape
Published: Monday, August 12, 2013
By John Kampf
[email protected]

COLUMBUS ? When Chris Carter runs onto the field at Ohio Stadium on Aug. 31 for Ohio State's season opener, many fans won't recognize him.

That's because the redshirt sophomore from Cleveland John F. Kennedy is a shadow of the person he used to be.

Literally.

When Carter arrived at Ohio State in 2010, he said he tipped the scales at 400-plus pounds. When he checked in on Sunday afternoon at the Woody Hayes Athletic Center, he was significantly lighter.

"(From) when I got here, I'm down about 60 pounds," the redshirt sophomore said. "I'm about 345 now."

The weight didn't come off as easy as it went on. It took a revamped diet and a strict workout regimen, under the guidance of OSU's guru for strength and conditioning ? Mickey Marotti ? to get Carter into some semblance of shape.

Carter earned his first varsity letter last season playing special teams. But all the while, he was working on transforming his body.

"It's been really hard," he said. "To work off fat has been a struggle. But Coach Marotti has greatly helped me achieve my goals."

Carter also helped himself.

"I remember my freshman year eating three Chipotle burritos or two footlongs from Subway," Carter said. "I don't do that anymore. I had to drastically reduce my portion sizes and watch what I eat. Instead of going to Five Guys for a burger, I go someplace for sushi."

A communications major, Carter was an all-Senate League selection at Cleveland JFK on the gridiron. He came to Ohio State as the 26th-rated guard in the nation, according to ESPN rankings, but was redshirted after reporting to camp at more than 400 pounds.

Carter said the lost weight allows him to sleep better at night, as well as play better on the field. He said his sleep apnea issue has been rectified since losing 60 pounds.

His goal is to shed more weight so as to play at less than 340 pounds over the next three seasons.

"Under 340 is my goal weight," he said. "But I feel that once I get down there I'll be able to go a lot more plays and play a lot more snaps."

Eating 3 chipotle burritos and 2 footlong subs, good lord! I hope the dietician is putting in over time with chris, he could be passed up by the younger kids if he doesn't get his weight in check and start showing and proving himself soon

Pretty clear from the article that they have worked with him, hence why he's making smarter food choices and dropped 60 pounds. He has his weight in check.
