Disgraced Former Penn State DC Jerry Sandusky (convicted child molester)

Don't get me wrong if even one child is molested that's about three too many. But only 1 is said to have been molested to at the PSU facilty. Joe get's second hand watered down story and still takes it to the head of campus police but that's not good enough for espn? If it comes out that Joe knew more ok fine..but you fired a legend over the phone. I hope he sues the [Mark May] out of secpn.

That's not really accurate. The Grand Jury presentment included the story of the janitorial staff, one of whom said he saw Sandusky performing oral sex on a boy, and another said that he saw Sandusky licking a boy. That occurred in 2000, in between the 1998 incident resulting in Sandusky saying "I wish I were dead" to a kid's mother with two police officers stationed inside her house overhearing it, and the 2002 incident where McQueary said he saw Sandusky abusing a kid in the shower.

I have an extreme dislike for ESPN and their self-interest in slanting college football coverage, but they had virtually nothing to do with JoePa being fired. Did you happen to notice how many media members were at the press conferences on the Monday after Sandusky's arrest and two days later when they announced the firing of University President Spanier and JoePa? Penn State also forced out the AD and a VP because they've been accused of perjury, following a grand jury investigation that lasted a couple of years and had absolutely nothing to do with ESPN.

I get it. You hate ESPN. So do I. But they are not a relevant story on that topic, so please just drop it. It's taking away from the real discussion involving the victims and the reasons why the abuse was allowed to continue for so many years.

Reason #1: It didn't happen to my son

Sandusky may well be enough of a sociopath to believe at some level that he's not an evil scrap of crap. Then there is the part of his brain that was smart enough to pick kids without fathers (at least for the most part). If he knew they were better targets, then there is a part of his brain that knew that what he was doing is wrong. There really aren't that many steps of thought in between the two. Sociopath or not; our society is diseased if this waste of human flesh ever sees the light of day again.

That's the biggest thing that's wrong with our society as a whole now. Nobody gives a crap about the next guy anymore. That, and the next guy that you try to help might be a psychopath as well....

Shivers.....

It's not clear to me what you're trying to say here (not uncommon).

Are you saying that someone should have stepped in whether it was their son or not?

If so, the problem with that is that no one knew it was happening to someone else's son. He picked kids in situations where the father was either absent or was checked out. If something like this happened to my son, I know for a fact that I would find out about it and that it would never happen again. But then, there's the next guy being a psychopath thing...

Looks like new charges are likely, based on statements made by a guy now 19 years old. He told police that back in 2004 (when he was 12), while dealing with the death of his mother, he met Sandusky through The Second Mile. He states that Sandusky gave him liquor, and then on the Penn State campus the boy was abused in the form of "involuntary deviate sexual intercourse" by Sandusky.

New Sandusky accuser steps forward, files complaint with police

PHILADELPHIA -- A 19-year-old man has filed a complaint with state police alleging he was sexually abused by Jerry Sandusky after the former coach gave him liquor on the Penn State campus in 2004, the accuser's lawyer said Tuesday.

Charles Schmidt said the client, whom he did not identify, came to his law firm about three weeks ago, after Sandusky was charged with sexually abusing eight children over a 15-year period.

"He suffered one incident of abuse, to use the legal term -- involuntary deviate sexual intercourse -- allegedly at the hands of Mr. Sandusky," Schmidt said. "That occurred on the Penn State campus, we believe in the area of the football facilities."

Joseph Amendola, Sandusky's lawyer, said he was not familiar with the allegations Schmidt was making.

The new claim came the same day a lawyer for a different young man who accused Sandusky of sexual abuse said he expects his client and at least five other alleged victims to testify at a preliminary hearing next week.

Cont'd ...

I might have changed my mind...Something doesn't add up. According to this...Report: All eight accusers to testify
http://espn.go.com/ncf/conversation...ht-jerry-sandusky-accusers-reportedly-testify

I am missing..well a whole lot of information..Wasn't this the biggest child abuse case in the history of child abuse. A cover up so large that espn held on to the tape for like 8 years? Wait no that's not it. it was the whole town of Happy Valley..A system so corrupt that it shook America to it's core. All under the All Knowing, All Seeing, Ruler of Happy Valleys' Nose? You have got to be kidding me.

Aside from the fact that you seem to be confusing the Syracuse and Penn State situations: i) Joe Paterno was not given "second hand watered down information". He received direct testimony from an eye-witness - an eye-witness whom he had ample reason to trust. If that constitutes second hand watered down information in your book, than anything other than Paterno seeing it with his own eyes would be such. And any courtroom testimony, for example, would also be "second hand, watered down information". In short, Paterno received the most direct, reliable information possible, short of seeing it himself. ii) Paterno "brought his information to the head of police", in the same sense that I'm filing a police report if I describe a suspected burglary to a town alderman in my municipality. The alderman's not a police officer, and neither was Gary Schultz. Sure, Schultz held a role on the University administrative tree that placed him above the campus police in a purely administrative capacity, but the suggestion that that somehow made him a law enforcement official is absurd. iii) You seem to be suggesting that Joe Paterno was in fact not plugged in to the goings on in Happy Valley, Penn State, and particularly his football program. Neither you nor I can provide dispositive evidence on that question one way or the other, but I think that common sense, as well as the observations of virtually everyone who has had any familiarity with that program for the past 40+ years, would differ with you.
