Disgraced Former Penn State DC Jerry Sandusky (convicted child molester)

Keep thinking what would happen if Jerry Sandusky has a Johnny Cochran-type lawyer and is acquitted of all counts and proven innocent.**

Lots of things were already changed (around Penn State and the Big Ten).

The trial will be a zoo, because everything has to be true for all these changes to have already occurred.

**This will never happen, because I've never seen someone "skate" on 40 counts. O.J. had two counts (granted, it was murder).

Dude, there are soooooo many bad jokes in there... and none of them are even remotely acceptable. I hate you.

Has there ever been an educated guess by legal experts (TV/Print/Radio) as to the amount of prison time for Sandusky, if convicted?

I wasn't listening too close, but briefly heard on a radio news report when I was in traffic that he could be out of jail in his 80's? That seemed short.

I guess it depends on if the judge of the case volunteered at Second Mile or not.

What other name is on the trophy and his Big 10 affiliation? Paterno is the winningest Coach in D1 history. Been in the league for 19 years. Up until this pile an unblemished career. Let's see what happens in court. He's NOT a target. Morally he sould have done more? I wont make a moral judgement.

What about Sandusky? Are you not willing to make a moral judgment there either?

No attack, just an honest question. Some people believe that there are no moral absolutes. Others do.. or is this just a gray area in your mind?

Roger Cossack was on the night all the shit hit the fan, and he said the rest of his life for sure if convicted on all counts. Now if there's a plea deal, who knows.

I cannot imagine what he could offer the prosecution that would entice them to let him plead down. He's the focus of the investigation; getting him is all they want, and by the looks of it, they've got him.

A lot of this zoo stems from the release of the grand jury report. Those proceedings are historically secret. I don't pretend to know or have read Pennsylvania's law on this issue, but that report would not have accompanied an indictment in Ohio. Normally, all of the messy details wouldn't be known until trial. And for good reason, to ensure a fair and impartial jury.

If that report hadn't been released, the only thing that would have changed is that everybody would know that Sandusky was facing 40 counts of sex abuse related charges. The public wouldn't have been privy to the summary of McQueary's testimony - which was the most talked-about portion.

Now I'm not saying this is a good thing (that we know about PSU, Paterno, etc. now) or a bad thing (that Sandusky's right to a fair trial seems compromised). It's just reality.

In 1987, Joe Paterno was the reigning Sports Illustrated Sportsman of the Year and national championship coach when I landed what I thought was a dream job on his staff as a low-ranking graduate assistant.

In addition to power and control dynamics among the staff and Paterno?s powerful presence in the community, a crazy tradition at Penn State was the coaches showered together after each practice and game. We never did this at Brown or at the University of Rhode Island, and my coaching friends never experienced this on their staffs.
