Disgraced Former Penn State DC Jerry Sandusky (convicted child molester)

watch mcqueary recant his grand jury testimony, claiming that he misspoke in regards to the specificity of his discussions with paterno, curley, and schultz.

edit: even if he were to recant, i don't see how it would absolve curley and schultz of their legal obligations.

Joseph V. Paterno testified to receiving the graduate assistant's report at his home on a Saturday morning.......

Paterno called Tim Curley ("Curley"), Penn State Athletic Director and Paterno's immediate superior, to his home the very next day, a Sunday,

What the fuck? Did he need a nap first? Have to rake the lawn? Who waits a full fucking day and then still just tells his boss?

Ped State indeed.

Regardless, it was clear that the witness saw something inappropriate involving Mr. Sandusky. As Coach Sandusky was retired from our coaching staff at that time, I referred the matter to university administrators.

WTF???? Reporting the anal rape of a child has a different response if the rapist is no longer employed by you? What would you have done if he was still on staff Joe - suspend him for a game?

And have him clean the stadium after a home game.

A lot of fallout from this deal is possible, but that I honestly don't see.

If anything, the demonization of mcqueary by penn state fans and the pubic would seem to be an even greater reason for him to try to place more blame on his higher ups. I bet we see his dad throw Joe under the bus my day's end Monday.

a seemingly well-connected poster on another board, who stated that more damning information will be made public, specifically stated that mcqueary's dad told the son to keep quiet what he witnessed. i'm not sure if i believe that due to how privy that information must be, but it's something to chew on. with the apparent veil of secrecy in centre county, nothing would surprise me.

I know you are just passing it on (which I appreciate), but I dunno how that statement jibes with his going to Joepa's house. If he was for burying it, going to the head coach's house with his son (as opposed to not saying anything) seems like a poor choice of strategy. Maybe he was for not saying anything, but when the son insisted he went along as support (or as a character witness to his son not making stuff up).

edit: unless you mean after the Joepa meeting. As in not getting anyone else involved, specifically the police?

I'm guessing there will be signs in Columbus on November 19th.

I was going to make a comment similar to this but I felt it would be in bad taste, nothing funny about what happened here. Although I have no doubt in my mind that it will provide material for countless signs and chants.

Did he actually go along for the meeting? I seem to have missed that in the grand jury document.

My reading of that document is that only the GA went to JoePa's house, not the father. I quoted the relevant portion in post 150. It's in the 'Victim 2' area on pages 6/7.

Trustees announce 2 officials to step down while case is investigated

Monday, November 7, 2011
UNIVERSITY PARK, PA ?

Following an executive session held Sunday night (Nov. 6), members of Penn State?s Board of Trustees and President Graham Spanier received a request from athletic director Tim Curley to be placed on administrative leave so he can devote the time needed to defend himself against recent allegations by the Pennsylvania Attorney General. Gary Schultz, interim senior vice president for finance and business, will step down so that he also can defend himself and return to retirement.

Both men have been charged with failure to report and perjury. Both deny any wrongdoing.

?The board, along with the entire Penn State family, is shocked and saddened by the allegations involving former assistant coach Jerry Sandusky,? said Steve Garban, chairman. ?Under no circumstances does the University tolerate behavior that would put children at risk, and we are deeply troubled.?

Sandusky retired from the University in 1999.

Schultz, who served as senior vice president of finance and business and University treasurer from 1993 until his retirement in 2009, recently returned to Penn State in an interim capacity to help the University transition as it fills the position. The University has been interviewing candidates for the post and expects to fill the position in the coming weeks.

Spanier said that Senior Associate Athletic Director Mark Sherburne will serve as interim athletic director until Curley?s legal situation is resolved.

?The protection of children is of paramount importance,? said Spanier. ?The University will take a number of actions moving forward to increase the safety and security within our facilities and make everyone aware of the protocols in place for handling these issues.?
Garban announced the following steps:

1. The chair of the board will appoint a task force to engage external legal counsel to conduct an independent review of the University?s policies and procedures related to the protection of children. This action is not intended to interfere with the ongoing judicial process;
2. Publicize the findings of the independent review;
3. Review with administrators police reporting protocols; and
4. Enhance educational programming around such topics.

?Members of the Board of Trustees reinforced that Penn State is committed to honesty, integrity, and upholding the highest ideals,? said Garban.

Just read the indictment, which does not mention the dad accompanying him.

The article linked in this post must be where I got that idea. I agree with you both that the language from the indictment would be a better source.
