Diet-Fitness-General Wellness Your Thoughts?

28...5'10 230ish six weeks ago. 213 now with paleo.

My playing weight as a college freshman was 185. I want to get into that realm.

Mac, what are you eating besides those items ? What is your breakfast? What kind of carb and grain intake do you have ?

I tried like crazy to watch what I ate according to mainstream nutrition and just couldn't do it. It was a vicious, tortuous cycle and was a constant civil war in my body as I stayed 40+ lbs overweight.

Paleo doesn't feel like a diet. It feels like finally being shown the faulty habits I used to take for granted.

I eat lunch at about 12 and dinner around 630ish. I don't eat breakfast often. I try to eat some pretzels/snack as a snack in the afternoon between lunch/dinner
There are varying theories about when and how much to eat, but breakfast would probably help a lot in your case. Many consider it to be the most important and sometimes biggest of the day. Smaller meals would probably help and look around some nutrition website to see what snacks you like the best that are good for you.

What's your eating schedule like? I start eating as soon as I wake up, and (when I'm at work) I eat a little every half an hour or so. Supposedly, that way my body knows that more food is always on the way, so it doesn't store it as fat. My bro-in-law eats one embarrassingly huge meal a day, and he's a monster. It makes sense to me. Also, I try my damnedest not to eat past 8:00, and if I do it isn't a large portion.
I probably don't have what would be considered an idea eating schedule but it works for me. I usually start my day with coffee and then either some oatmeal or toast. I normally workout around midday and afterward have a light lunch, usually some eggs or chicken, spinach and some fruit. I do my cardio around 6pm due to it being so friggin' hot here in the summer. I go to one of the mountain trail and run, walk, jog for about an hour and a half. By the time I get home it's around 8pm and then I eat my dinner, usually something omelet based with meat, potatoes and vegetables topped with about a half an avocado, green salsa, maybe a little provolone and sometimes a few corn tortillas. Dessert is usually a frozen fruit bar or sometimes a peanut butter, banana and honey sandwich on an English muffin or crumpet.
My weekly teat is a personal pizza and Ceasar salad washed down with a few ales. If I see a movie afterward I'll get some red vines. Like I said, may not be ideal but it's worked for me. I think the key is you have to keep exercising.

I eat whole wheat bread for a sandwhich for lunch (if thats what i have) whole wheat pasta, I started eating eggs more. I will have a bagel every now and then for breakfast. I don't eat sweets because like others it makes me sick. I'll maybe have a pop once a month at most.

It's not beer because I only have a couple a week  although I would drink more if I wouldn't put on weight

One more thing I wanted to add here. I had a physical today and it wasn't until afternoon so I had to fast all day. I was still allowed coffee, tea and water but like an idiot I drank mostly coffee. I worked out around noon, did abs and started legs with my lifts and squats. I did the lifts and squats consecutively without resting. At the end of the first set I was very lightheaded. I rested a bit and then did lunges. Same thing, got lightheaded and had to sit back down. I started another set of squats and lifts and could feel myself getting light headed so I stopped. It took me a while to get to feeling right, in fact at the doctors office I was still kind of tripping out from being so lightheaded. My blood pressure was 128/80 and he said my heart sounded great so it wasn't a heart problem. I'm thinking maybe I had some dehydration with a touch of acid reflux working there because i really felt like crap. Anyone else ever get really lightheaded to the point that you have to terminate your workout?
In case you're all wondering, yes, he made me sing "Moon River".

Good to see so many people on here involved with dieting and taking better care of themselves. It really does make life more enjoyable.

I know I've written this before, but I'm enamored with seeing what other folks buy at the supermarket. The morbidly obese tend to buy lots of pop and microwavable foods. The older people who are in amazing shape buy meat, dairy, fruits, and vegetables.

I've always been heavy. I think I hit 200 somewhere in 7th grade, at about 5'7'' or so. I've been as low as 210, and as high as 305. Changing to a natural food way of life has allowed me to maintain my current weight (as stated, 6'2''/230) for almost four years. I have more energy at 34 than I did at 25.

Anyone else addicted to olive oil and balsamic vinegar? I crave salads because of them.

Funny you mentioned basil. My herb garden (yeah, I know) is overflowing with basil. I also have about three sacks full of tomatoes. I've been canning veggies most of this week and have made at least three gallons of spaghetti sauce too. I just started some more of this, too.

My self sufficiency would truly make your father proud.

We made a metric ton of pesto this year with our basil. As well as 32.5 (so far!) quarts of pickles.

Guess what you fuckers are getting for Christmas?

Krav fcuking Maga! I started last October, missed several months because of various rugby injuries, got fat and lazy, sat out of rugby spring/summer to focus on KM, passed the first level test, and am now in the best shape I can remember. Actually look forward to going to classes and hitting the weights in between classes AND I still get to eat/drink pretty much whatever I want.

Is it enjoyable to train in KM? Or is it too brutal to want to go back?
