Diet-Fitness-General Wellness Your Thoughts?

About six weeks into Paleo.

I'm down to 213 from 230-235.

Mild uptick in activity level with hauling lighting equipment around, but that is a minor factor as the season began about four weeks ago.

The digestive changes are extraordinary.

- I am only hungry half as often as before, if not closer to 35-40%.

- My digestive system is noticeably pleased, not just satisfied, by eating right. There is a noticeable refreshment that comes with eating naturally.

- Gone is the struggle of constant hunger pangs, eventually relenting and then either feeling bloated from overhleating or back at square one when trying to watch calories and portions.

- I eat what I want. I watch what things I eat, not how much.

- my body went from a bad influence to an accountability partner. What I used to crave and eventually appease is now like eating a bag of Halloween candy. It tastes good but feels awful as it settles. Before caving felt great physically, now it causes an upset stomach.

- I have not sworn off carbs, sweets, or other un paleo things. I only avoid them most of the time. But there are still a few meals a week where neither of us has the time or energy to prepare a meal and pizza comrades home. It just becomes easier to avoid those breakdowns because I don't feel very good afterwards.

- I have really diversified my meals. I never ate Spaghetti Squash before but mixed with eggs into an omelette it is very unique.

I despise cauliflower raw, dislike it cooked, but mark sisson's cookbook introduced me to the greatness of puree'd cauliflower. It has a very nice flavor once you eliminate the gross texture as a roadblock.

- it is delicious! Why starve yourself with laughably small portions or bland diet stricken snacks when you can have rich eggs, juicy meat, fresh nuts, zesty veggies, etc?

I eat most of my meals in omelet form. Usually three eggs, some grated potato that I boil ahead of time and keep in the fridge, some shredded chicken breast meat and spinach. It fills me up good and when you add up the calories it's really not too high. I always keep hard boiled eggs around too, they're great for a midday snack or boost. Something else that I really like although it's not part of the paleo diet, I'm not a paleo guy, is steel cut oats cooked in chicken broth with salt, pepper and some cheese. It tastes like polenta. Reading the bit about the halloween candy almost made me nauseous, I can't do sweets anymore which is a good thing. My only weakness is I love Red Vines, I usually have them at the movies. The only real treat that I keep in the house are Dreyer's real fruit bars. I used to have low carb, no sugar added chocolate but chocolate makes my acid reflux flair up so I avoid them now. Keep it and you'll continue to see results.

I'm not gung ho on it, but I've been tinkering with my eating habits. I've always been big on fruits and vegetables for lunch (mostly because it's easy to pack) but we've been cutting more of the processed parts out of dinners. Rather than pasta or bread, we'll substitute zucchini or broccoli. (Of course, it's all been a bit more difficult with Mrs. Katt's vitamn K restriction and now with her minimum calcium requirements.)

At the very least, if I'm going to eat something grainy, I'll make it worth while. Homemade bread, pasta, or pizza dough. Or good pizza for carryout. None of the chain restaurant garbage any more.

I'm not really looking to lose weight, but I am down a handful of pounds.....and now I get concerned people asking me if I'm eating, so I must be looking a bit anorexic or something.

Can't you primal nuts ever just call a type of food what it is without 18 zillion adjectives? It's like watching an infomercial! :pissed:

I remember back when I slimmed down about 40 lbs my thin friends told me I looked great and my fat friends thought that I was sick.

Nice job! Keep cutting away at the bad habit items and you will get rid of them eventually. There are plenty of Paleo things that can me made in a easily and repalce that take home pizza like eggs/omlets and big salads. I generally have cooked chicken and other things essential for a quick meal on hand at all times.

However you seem to be losing weight at about .5 lbs a day which is very fast. (I was usually between a .2 to .4 lbs/day) Keep doing what you are doing until you hit a wall and improve.

Looks like several of us are in the same boat.

JWins, I'm with you-junk food now makes me sick, I can't fathom eating most sweets-with the exception of dark chocolate-because they just seem too nauseating. I used to pick up a Twix/Dr. Pepper combo every time I drove by the store. Still a fan of Dr. Pepper, just allow myself one per week or so.

I've found the key to eating this way is to prepare food in bulk, similar to what OneBuckeye said about chicken. I wash and cut all of my vegetables as soon as I get them in the house. Then I have them ready if I get a nasty case of the munchies, or when I'm making lunch or dinner.

Same with chicken, I buy a whole chicken from the butcher, then grill it all. I pick the bones out, and grab a handful for whatever I'm making. I also make my own artisan breads, usually adding flaxseed to the dough. There's nothing else in my bread other than flour, yeast, salt, and water. This fall, I'll be experimenting with flatbreads, since I'm a huge fan of wraps.

With about 20 minutes of prep, you can get to the point where eating good food is as time efficient as eating processed foods. Out of curiosity, how old are you guys (JW, DC, 1Buck)? I'm 34, but started this at 29 when I was just under 300lbs. I've been 230 for just under 3.5 years, and it's pretty stable.

I'm 42, a tad over 6' and I weigh about 175lbs. I once weighed around 220 but I've kept my weight down below 200lbs for a while now. It's amazing how easy it becomes after a while.

27 Started eating Primal in Janurary and went from 225 to 168. Did a round a round of P90x, Some crossfit and other random work outs. I also have been doing IF 16/8 fast feed since April or May sometime. Now have a real six pack for the first time in my life. I lifted and was fit around 175 in college but gained weight towards the end of college getting a job and married. Edit: I am 5 10 on a good day.

Thanks for the answers to my little survey.(didn't mention that I'm 6'2'') I'm actually pretty curious as to when guys get the message (if they ever do) and stop eating shit food. I have good friends ranging from 23 to 50, and the younger guys think my food is good, but run off to the Chinese Buffet or Crapplebee's whenever they get the chance.
Sadly, they think that is good food.

36. Started on this path last October with P90x and then changed the diet. I started at about 175 lbs (5'9" frame) and got as low as 164. Now, I am low 170s. I don't concern myself with my weight much any more. It's about how I feel and what I'm able to do.

I'm 24 about 6' and I'm at 220 currently. I really want to get down to the 180-185-190 range. In college I was at 190ish almost all 5 years. I haven't worked out/ran in a while. I have pretty good eating habits. I usually have chicken about 4-5 times a week for dinner. I eat veggies and fruits every day. If we go out to eat, I usually get a salad. I drink usually about 120 oz. of water every day. But I don't lose weight even if I don't eat many calories. It's frustrating.

Weight lifting, cardio 2-3 times a week and eat around 2000-2500 calories a day with 1-1.5 g protein/lean body weight. If you burn around 3500 calories a week you should lose a pound a week. (You will lose more than that at first but a pound a week should be your goal after you lose a lot of water weight)

What's your eating schedule like? I start eating as soon as I wake up, and (when I'm at work) I eat a little every half an hour or so. Supposedly, that way my body knows that more food is always on the way, so it doesn't store it as fat. My bro-in-law eats one embarrassingly huge meal a day, and he's a monster. It makes sense to me. Also, I try my damnedest not to eat past 8:00, and if I do it isn't a large portion.

I think I'll start doing this in a few weeks. There's no way right now since I just got married and moved into our house. But thanks for the tips.

I eat lunch at about 12 and dinner around 630ish. I don't eat breakfast often. I try to eat some pretzels/snack as a snack in the afternoon between lunch/dinner
