Diet-Fitness-General Wellness Your Thoughts?

I drink a LOT of water a day, probably a gallon or more, plus coffee in the AM. Am I getting enough salt, do you think? Or should I use more in my food?

I always salt to taste. Personal preference as far as I'm concerned.

I think you're drinking way too much water UNLESS you're absolutely thirsty for that much.

You are taking this caveman dieting pretty serious.........Google posed a better question though.

"Where did caveman put his beer before refrigerators were invented?"
Well if I'm going to try it I want to do it right. One more thing, did caveman cook his meat or eat it raw? How did they work it with chicken? I ask because I'm not exactly sure in which time of caveman history they discovered fire. One more thing, did they eat cured meats like bacon and ham? I'm not sure I could give those up.

I drink a strong cup of coffee in the morning and chase that with 32oz of water, then drink another cup and chase it again. Then I usually go for a couple-mile walk at lunch, and it's hot, so when I come back I usually down another cup of water right away. In the afternoon I usually have another, because I'm still thirsty from my walk, but I don't always drink all of that last one. Then at night before I go to bed maybe some more.

I drink a lot of coffee, which is a diuretic, and two or three times a week I'm having a beer or wine with my dinner, so that's another diuretic.

I understand that's personal preference on both of your accounts. Just alluding to the perspective of your body will let you know when it's thirsty. You needn't follow a prescribed amount (so to say). If you drink too much water, then you can flush your body of the nutrients from the foods and/or supplements you're taking. 'Tis all.

I've wondered if my binge coffee drinking (a diuretic) is harming me by flushing out necessary nutrients. I know I should drink less coffee. I think I'm addicted.

Personally, I don't really notice a diuretic effect with drinkng coffee. Just me though. There are benefits to coffee aside from the caffeine though, and it makes a particularly wonderful carrier for a slug of heavy cream in the morning (YUM!).

Same here.

Nothing quite hits the spot like a strong cup of coffee made in a French press. All of the oils that stain the coffee filter are there for your enjoyment.

French press is the only way to fly. I buy brewed coffee at the coffee shop because I usually have to get in and get out, but if I've got time, it's the press.

I don't even have a coffee pot at home. I have two presses, one for just me and a larger one I use for company. Guests get all excited when you make it like it's some kind of voodoo alchemy, too. I've made a lot of converts at dinners with my press.

Another question for the paleo dieters, what was the average lifespan of a caveman?

Not only that, but I've always felt like the french press made the coffee a little easier on my stomach. I do have a full sized Bunn pour-o-matic (the kind you see at convenient stores) in the middle of my gym. It looks kinda bizarre, but will spit out two pots of coffee in less then a minute.

What's everyone's favorite coffee? I had a buddy send me a giant burlap sack full of jamaican blue mountain beans, but it really didn't blow me away like I had hoped. I've always been partial to Millstone. The aroma is nice, and really tastes as good as it smells.

I get Cafe Bustelo at a discount grocer near my house for 1.50 a pound. It's an expresso grind, which means I don't have to regrind for use in my expresso maker.

I was over estimating, I drink about 3 32oz bottles, I was counting 32ozs as a half a gallon for some reason. Believe. I get thirsty. When you spend as much time as I do outside 100 degree + temperatures you need to stay hydrated.

Blue Mountain is vastly overrated in my opinion. Of course, with everything, drink what you like. Nobody else's taste should influence what you like.

Having said that, my favorite coffees come from Indonesia. You can get a really good, dark roast on the bean and it comes out with great flavor and low acid. I battle acid reflux and "sour stomach" all the time, so the less acidity in my coffee the better - but I like harsh, dark coffees. If anyone is familiar with Peet's, a chain on the West Coast, that's the kind of coffee I like.

I pretty much exclusively drink Starbucks because they are the only place in Lincoln I've found that consistently roasts the bean all the way through. I cannot stand that sour, pea-like flavor you get from a partially roasted bean, and too often my local coffee joints serve that crap to me. I would love to support local more, but not when it tastes like ass.

Of all the Starbucks coffees, the one I like most is Komodo Dragon. It's an Indonesian bean, holds a strong, dark flavor, and is very low in acid. I dig Kenyan from time to time, but although African coffees have a great dark flavor, the acidity is WAY high. Kills me.
