Devin Gardner (official thread)

How many QB's has that been said about who are backups? Then they get their shot at starter and bomb. I am not saying he would bomb, but until you are actually the starter who knows what they will do. Pressure does funny things to people.

Troy Smith says hi....

What makes the Braxton great is everyone knows in the Stadium what he is going to do. The opposing DC knows what he's going to do and he still makes them look silly.

Which changed both during the season last year and will entirely change this year.

Can Devin get it done being the guy? I have no idea what he'll do. He has a lot of talent and I am excited to see what he can do.

No one is really seeing much talent there - certainly not a polished QB of any type. If it took an injury to supplant arm-punt, he's probably not very good IMO.

Yep, how many can go from WR to QB and play like he did?

He has the talent, no doubt.

Talent does not = wins
If you're talking kids who were brought in as recruits to play QB and got moved to WR for whatever reason.....probably more than you realize. It's not like they randomly grabbed a WR off the pile and asked him to throw a football for the first time.

All I know is he wasn't good enough to stay at QB, he wasn't good enough to beat out that putz who came in for the Nebraska game, and he wasn't good enough to beat anybody good....but now he's supposed to be, what? What changed?

More experience. This will be his 5th year playing college football.

Ohio State has a very experienced offensive line and many weapons across the board on offense. Many we haven't seen. TTUN does not have those.

If you haven't seen them, you can't really call them weapons. Or, by using your theory, Michigan has a lot of weapons as well, you just haven't seen them.

Unfortunately for Michigan Tressel was 9-1 against you guys. Urban Meyer beat one of JT's better teams 41-14. Sorry but Meyer is a better coach than Tressel...bad news for you.

Here is something you will find out very fast this year. Meyer is a lot different than Tressel. He is gonna play the best players no matter what class they are in. If the WR's drop TD passes like they did last year...their asses will be on the bench and you will see more Jalin Marshall, James Clark, and Corey Smith!!!

Michigan has jack shit for weapons.

Joe Germaine is right there with him.

He came into games and was able to throw the ball in the general zipcode of wide receivers. That's not something they've seen for a few years.

Imagine if Braxton threw like Bauserman. Justin Zwick would be a pleasant surprise coming in if Bauserbrax got hurt.

Michigan has jack [Mark May] for weapons.

Eh I don't really know about this. The transitive property doesn't apply to football. I'm sure most people on this board will disagree, but I think in terms of pure Xs and Os Coach Tress set the standard. That said, Urban is one of the top two coaches in all of college football and Hoke has only just broken 0.500. Should be an interesting rivalry...

And Carr beat one of Meyer's teams, so what. In fact that Carr team lost to App State.

The above is why you cannot judge coaches on one game. I would take JT over Meyer.

If you think Tressel is better than Meyer...hey that's up to you. All I know is Meyer beat Tressel badly...embarrassed him. Meyer also has as many UNC as Bowden and Paterno who are regarded as top 10 coaches all-time in FBS...at the ripe old age of 49. Meyer also has 2 undefeated seasons outside the UNC season. He is a better coach than Tressel...the head to head...undefeated seasons/NC's...Bowl record...winning %...winning % versus multiple rivals verifies this.

If I was sending my kid to play football and my choice was UM or JT, I would take JT hands down.

Wins are nice, but I just like the way JT conducted himself and the fact he never quit on his players.

JT = Respect to this Michigan fan. Always has, always will. Will see what happens at the first sign of adversity for UM.

That's nice. That's why you would also send your kid to play for Hoke. You want the coach to hold his hand tell him everything's going to be ok, sell him lies. Meyer makes no promises but if you truly follow him even when it's not fun you will be a much better player. I'm the biggest Jim Tressel fan but if you can't respect what Urban is doing then look no further as to why you aren't elite. He demands excellence nothing short of that is good enough. That's how you win championships.

I think you're in the minority of UM fans. I think more hold Meyer in much higher regard than JT. I will agree, JT was a "player's coach", maybe to a fault.
