Derrick "LLL" Green (RB ttun transfer to TCU)

Derrick Green planning trip to Oklahoma
April, 2, 2012
By Brandon Chatmon

ESPNU Watch List prospect Derrick Green (Richmond, Va./Hermitage) is being very diligent about the recruiting process. The elite running back prospect has taken several unofficial visits to various schools around the country.

?Going out to see a school definitely helps me,? said Green who has made trips to Wisconsin, Michigan, Clemson, North Carolina and North Carolina State. ?After I?ve seen a school I jot down things that I like. And if the things I don?t like overweigh the things I like, then that school isn?t for me.?

Green will add Oklahoma to the list on April 20 when he takes a trip to see the Sooners. The 5-foot-11, 215-pound running back has been developing a strong relationship with Sooners running back coach Cale Gundy.

Notes: Hermitage to play on ESPN
By: Times-Dispatch Staff | Times-Dispatch
Published: April 05, 2012

Hermitage will play a football game this season that will be nationally broadcast by the ESPN network, Panthers coach Patrick Kane said.

Hermitage will oppose Fork Union at Oscar Smith High School in Chesapeake on Aug. 25 at 4 p.m. Oscar Smith, the defending Group AAA state champion, will play Byrnes of South Carolina that evening, also on ESPN.

Last year, the ESPN network aired 13 high school football games in three days on ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU and ESPN3.com. Kane said he doesn't know which channel will show Hermitage.

To accommodate the game on its schedule, Hermitage had to drop its date against Glen Allen on Sept. 14. Glen Allen will instead host Fredericksburg Christian. The Panthers also have to bump up their summer practice schedule by two weeks.

"National recognition is always good for the school, the county, the area and the state," Kane said.

Hermitage has one of the best players in the state in running back Derrick Green, who has scholarship offers from 24 schools, including Virginia, Virginia Tech, Ohio State and Oklahoma.

Oklahoma State and Boston College were two of the most recent schools to offer him scholarships. Green recently took trips to Wisconsin and Michigan, and is expected to take more in the summer.

The question is

Does OSU still need him?

Last week he was all OSU, even after EE committed.

Now that has changed. Why? Likely becuase the staff isn't sure or they don't need two backs.

He is very similar to Brionte. We are now deep and RB, and they are limited with scollies.

True on all accounts, but as osu fans we should all know how quickly depth at RB can turn into a need. A tweaked ankle here, a pulled groin there, and before we know we're down to 1-2 RBs. We went 5 deep 2yrs ago and in like 2-3 games we only had 1 healthy guy maybe 2. The same went with usc a few years ago, they were just as deep and the injury bug hit and they needed guys. RBs get dinged up constantly, and having another top flight one couldn't hurt.

Green's just checking everything out and playing the recruiting game. Always remember Grant's here, one of his football mentors and good friends. He wear's #27 for a reason and yes we need him bc our RB's can get injured quickly. Having a deep stable of "good" RBs is something OSU's lacked for a while. There's always been one or may be two but having about 4-5...now that's sounds ok to me:biggrin:
