Deion Sanders (HC Colorado)

It's wild how many people want to see Deion fail for some reason.

He will have success at Colorado, I have zero doubts. May have the best OC in the game at his disposal as well, or at least one of the best.
I think it is more based on all of the positive coverage he gets without doing much in big time college football, yet. Not sure the PAC 12 is big time, but if he gets the Buffs to 10 wins in 3-4 years then that man deserves a damn statue.

Any coach in any sport that takes over a dead program has to generate some buzz to get the fan base and recruits to take notice. That is what he’s doing and he’s doing it at an extremely high level just like he promoted himself since he was 18 years old or so.

I get that some people don’t like self promoters or showboats or whatever but he doesn’t have time to be Tressel and turn that disaster around. He’s a businessman. I respect him.

23 players in the portal.

1-11 last year.

We will soon see who is right

You don't rebuild from 1-11 overnight, so expect Twitterverse to have their laughs this fall.

This is a program overhaul. Where the Colorado is in year three will be a truer measure.

Ditto.

I don’t understand it.

People laughing at an exodus from a 1-win team.

If a Buff fan, I’d welcome it!

Teams better get him this year b/c it will get exponentially more difficult later.

Mrs. Buckeye is a CU alum and having lived in Colorado for 7 years, I'm a bit of a Buffs fan. Folsom Field's a helluva place to take in a game.

I hope Deion succeeds, but he has his work cut out for him. It's good that he's building hype and generating interest in a dead-ass program, but that interest will fizzle out if the results aren't there. This is a classic "all or nothing" hire to me. With the LA teams bailing, that conference is up for grabs. Coach Prime is either gonna build a big winner or is going to flame out spectacularly; I don't see room for any in between.
That’s the Hugh Freeze playbook. Fake as hell.

I don’t like Bobby Petrino, but at least he acknowledges “yeah, I’m a real prick”
This has been up for almost 39 hours and this hasn't appeared???

It isn't so much as I want Neon to fail, but I want CU to continue to be a shitshow. That state doesn't deserve a good college football team. I lived their on two separate occasions (5 years total). Nobody gave a shit about CU and if they did you would have thought they Bama. They are an arrogant lot and Boulder can F off. It is really pretty though.

I am not hoping he fails at all. I honestly do not think I care at all.
I just think he will struggle mightily.
I will admit that I find his hubris to be annoying. So I guess I would enjoy watching him be humbled a bit. But I do agree that he has to create hype anyway he can to get that program moving. And he will need to have some level of success on the field or at the bare minimum be entertaining and competitive. I think his issue will be up front. I do not see how anyone can build the lines through the portal. The goods ones are really valued and protected. So while they may be able to have solid to high end WR/RB/Qb and maybe DB/LB, I have my doubts the Dline and Olines will hold up. But again being in the Pac10 will help them greatly. In the SEC or B10 he would get eaten up.

After looking at their schedule they seem to get a bit lucky that they get TCU who may have a completely new Offense as I feel like that whole Oline were 5th year SR and the obviously the QB left also. And the second game is Neb who has a new coach and is in rebuild mode. So maybe he catches some magic and jumps out to 3-0 with Col. State game 3. I can not even fathom the hype around that program if they start 3-0.....hehehhehehe OK so now maybe I am hoping that happens to see everyone lose their minds. Because I am positive USC/UCLA/WASH/Ore/Ore St. will all smash them.

Why is it wild? Not everyone likes obnoxious loudmouths

It's wild because if anyone in the sports universe deserves to talk their shit, it's that man. One of the greatest NFL players of all-time, can pick up baseball as a part-time sport and is good enough to play at the MLB level, and could have had a professional track career if he wanted. He was a 3/three/tres sport athlete at FSU. In the athletic talent world he's in a discussion with Bo Jackson and that's it from the modern era.

Then he goes to a fledgling FCS school that had won 12 games in their prior 3 seasons and wins 27, and that's with a COVID shortened season. Easily tops 30 wins in 3 seasons otherwise.

He has earned his way to Colorado, he's had massive success at every level, and the idea that he should be quiet or needs to be humbled wreaks of jealousy to me. He could have gone to other P5 programs, but he chose a project that he can build and mold from the ground up.

If you hate Colorado, their university, that's up to you - but the reality is every school is made up of passionate fans like us that deserve to have some hope and they certainly have waited their turn to finally taste optimism. People have such low expectations of what they are capable of and Deion is just the person to make them realize they are capable of much more.

You just answered your own question......he is in the realm of Bo Jackson. Can we agree that maybe they have different personalities. All I am saying is I prefer a bit less shit talking in general. My coach Mel Tucker was pushing a bunch of crap early on to get the hype machine rolling and then has chilled. But Coach "Prime" makes Tucker look like he was not even trying. And Tucker was pushing it pretty hard. Like harder than anyone else. So Prime is unique in many ways.
But I agree that you can not argue his success. My only rub is that he as basically been playing JV with Varsity talent and acting like he is a great coach. In general, I have issue with coaches that out talent teams and act like it is all their coaching. But the one thing he has done which is kind of on the down low is built a pretty damn good staff. So he is not dumb. And it makes me think all the ego and hubris is all for show. Which I would appreciate. I mean I feel like most of the behind the scenes I have seen from him sounds like most of it is for show. He sounds like a grumpy old man most of the time to be honest. Maybe he is one of the guys posting on the Pussification thread.

Ok further update. I guess at the moment I find this story to be more interesting than most of what is happening around college football.

42 scholarship players have left the program since Coach Prime gave his speech on day 1. I am not sure if that includes the kids who graduated. But regardless. That is a ton of bodies to replace. Additionally, I read that they only had 4 true Dline players for the Spring Game. So that is not going to work.
I am no longer in the group of think he might fail. I am firmly in the group of "they are going to struggle next year for sure".

With all this said. If you grade basically 90% of the roster as subpar. I am not sure how you replace the roster without this level of chaos. If he can coach and can get better players I still think it is a minimum of 2-3 years. If he can somehow get a winning record next season I will 100% be impressed.
