Decanonized Mythologized Disgraced Ped State Monster Coach Joe Paterno (Zombie Icon)

How can Tom Bradley state that he takes the interim head coaching role with "mixed emotions"??? What are the emotions? How can there be a sliver of excitement or happiness from him?

With my benefits of hindsight, I'm now wondering if he means he's feeling "shame" and "sorrow". Could those be the mixed feelings?
It's his dream job, it's an increased paycheck. He's the head coach at his school, a school he loves. The way he got that job is heart-wrenchingly bad. He's human, he has mixed emotions.

Many NFL scouts won't miss Paterno

One NFC scout was asked how he felt about Joe Paterno leaving.

"I hate to see any of this stuff happening," the scout said, "but people in my line of work won't miss him."

The reason? Paterno was notorious for his abuse of scouts and personnel men who tried to interview players or the staff in preparation for the NFL draft and free agency.

None of this stuff compares to the grand ugliness that happened at the school regarding molestation charges but it does open a small window -- a tiny one -- into how tight control Paterno had at the school.

It wasn't unusual for scouts to set up an appointment to speak with a player or group of players, or even Paterno himself, only to find after traveling to campus Paterno would cancel all appointments.

Eventually, I'm told, scouts were only allowed to come on certain open dates. Sometimes they'd be allowed to watch practice, sometimes not. Paterno had his favorites and would let certain scouts he liked or thought were friends of the program have better access to the team than others.

"Penn State was one of the worst places to try and do your job," said the scout.

Dan Shonka, a former scout, tweeted recently: "I have received several e-mails from retired and present NFL scouts that reminded me that Joe Paterno hindered us from doing our job at Penn St How so? Coach Paterno had a rule that scouts could only visit on open dates and watching prospects during practice was not allowed. Many scouts blame Penn St busts over the years on the lack of info Coach Paterno let out..."

Penn State making progress, but two personnel moves still remain

As of now, assistant Mike McQueary will coach when Penn State hosts Nebraska on Saturday

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. -- The letter boasted, but any college football program that could make such a claim would be expected to shout it from the rooftops. Such information would be very important to the recruit to whom the letter was addressed.
"Penn State is 1 of 2 Division I institutions who have never been investigated or sanctioned for any major NCAA infractions," said the letter, obtained and revealed on Twitter by ESPN.com Michigan recruiting editor Tom VanHaaren. "Think about this as you make your college decision. Coach Paterno's saying 'Success with Honor' has value here."
The author ended with "Think Penn State," and then he signed the letter.
Coach McQueary.
As in Mike McQueary, the redheaded former Penn State quarterback who led the Nittany Lions to the Citrus Bowl as a senior in 1997. As in Mike McQueary, the current wide receivers coach/ace recruiter. As in Mike McQueary, the graduate assistant who saw something he wasn't supposed to see in 2002.
As in Mike McQueary, the guy who still has a job. According to interim coach Tom Bradley, McQueary will coach on Saturday when the Nittany Lions face Nebraska. Bradley said Thursday that it would be a "game-time decision" as to whether McQueary would coach from the field or from the press box.
That McQueary will coach at all is shocking. Penn State fired legendary coach Joe Paterno and president Graham Spanier on Wednesday for their failure to follow up on a 2002 report from a subordinate that former defensive coordinator Jerry Sandusky had molested a 10-year-old boy in a shower in Penn State's football building. That report came from McQueary, who told a grand jury earlier this year that he saw everything.
In fact, it was McQueary's testimony that ensnared the other person who still stunningly appears on Penn State's employment rolls. Athletic director Tim Curley is on administrative leave while he fights a perjury charge. This may be semantics to avoid a lawsuit and a prelude to a firing. But the point is Curley is still officially employed by a hemorrhaging university even though he allegedly helped cover up child molestation and then allegedly lied about it to a grand jury. Curley maintains his innocence, but the 23-page grand jury presentment paints Curley in a harsh light. The other school official charged with perjury, vice president Gary Schultz, has retired.

Cont'd ...

Maybe it's just me but I'm having a hard time seeing humor in this situation. It's a sad affair and the number of victims is still unknown. I don't know if this will ever be a joking matter.

Absolutely agree, but speaking only for myself, humor is a defense mechanism to avoid thinking about the horror of what has happened.

I grok people. I am people? so now I can say it in people talk. I've found out why people laugh. They laugh because it hurts so much? because it's the only thing that'll make it stop hurting.

In case some missed it..................
"Lessons I Learned While Watching Penn State Operate During a Crisis."
"If you are a legendary Defensive Coordinator who also happens to be a pederast and all around sicko f**k, you're allowed to indulge on your alleged sick fantasies as long as it is alleged and that you indulge off campus. Until you are properly and formally prosecuted, you may keep your access to campus offices, weight rooms, and showers, and whatever facility that will get you all sweaty and worked up."

penn state's board of trustees fired paterno over the phone, which tells me how disappointed they are in him. paterno is a witness for the prosecution... but has hired a criminal defense attorney. interesting.

I guess it's better than YouTube, right? :tongue2: (although that wasn't how it was done to JT),

Is Paterno charged or is this just precautionary (for perhaps more to come)?

The DA disappearance needs to continued to be investigated and all these parties need to be heavily questioned.

Not charged at this point.

A post earlier today pointed out that the Centre County DA's disappearance (Ray Gricar) in 2005 was probably due to his investigation of a heroin distribution ring.
