Decanonized Mythologized Disgraced Ped State Monster Coach Joe Paterno (Zombie Icon)

Lots of stupidity in there, like them gravitating towards the wiffle ball bat thing like that is the biggest deal.

This is what made me stop to post here though:

IMO, an opinion essay --- not a book reviewReply

How exactly are you supposed to write a book review without it being your opinion, might I ask?

Even then, the masses at BWI won't read any of it. They are all patiently waiting for somebody literate to do all that reading mumbo-jumbo and toss some criticisms into the echo chamber.

Nailed it.

Still, if "Paterno" will satisfy no one who wanted Mr. Posnanski to write a document full of damning details about what the coach knew and when he knew it, the book is, intentionally or not, a devastating blow to Paterno's legacy.

I haven't read the book but now I don't think I will. For those who read the book, where is he getting this "devastating blow" from? The few things he pointed out in his article??? Good grief, beat me with a wiffle-ball bat. What an idiot.

I haven't read the book and I won't read the book, but the guy who wrote this review of it is an idiot. Someone else read it for me and confirm my per-determined opinion. :slappy:

Edit: Not venturing over to those boards very much, I always forget that there is the possibility of parody trolls running amok. They are either the hardest working parody trolls in the world, or some of that stuff is actually real.

Re: Wall Street Journal review of "Paterno"Reply
Paterno's myth went like this: A street-wise Brooklyn kid with a Brown University education, he accidentally fell into coaching at a "cow college" and ended up becoming the winningest coach in NCAA history, despite an insistence that education and integrity mattered far more than athletic success. Most of this is false.
Apparently the author is not familiar with the "Grand Experiment," the audacious belief that one could field a Championship football team without cheating and while graduating players.

Joe never said winning wasn't important. What he said was that it's not more important than earning a meaningful degree.

I can't find an alma mater for this guy Marchman. Pitt? Rutgers?
Holy hell. That one has to be a parody, right?

Funny, coming from a university that made a retired football coach the dean of its history department. (Or something like that....I'm not too worried about FACTS.)

Does he still need to be former Penn State Coach? He hasn't won a game in around 15 years. :p
Since the 2011 tOSU vs PSU game was played AFTER JoPa was fired, doesn't that mean they didn't vacate that win? I went to cfbdatawarehouse and they have that game as being vacated. I am a bit confused.

Elaborate????

If you're talking about Woody, he was never made a history professor. He had an office in the ROTC building, and he guest lectured in some military history classes. He, however, was never even an adjunct instructor, much less a professor. The history professors considered him a rather committed amateur historian and certainly appreciated all the fundraising that he (quietly, as opposed to his colleague in PA) did for the department, but that was about it.

That's kind of what I thought. Just wasn't sure.

Actually, the President asked whether one of Paterno's old coaches would be qualified to be Dean of the Sciences college. The Ticklemonster was just made an Emeritus Professor.

Oh, that's much better.

Like I said, I'm not too concerned with FACTS.
