Decanonized Mythologized Disgraced Ped State Monster Coach Joe Paterno (Zombie Icon)

Thought I'd go ahead and pile on a little bit.

How many games did Paterno win against teams with a sub .600 record (basically a 7-5 team or worse)
299

Paterno was 299-33 in such games.

Consequently, in games against teams which were at least 8-4 Paterno was 110-103

In fairness to his "legacy" I don't know how these numbers stack up against other coaches and I'm not going to do the leg work to find out. Suffice to say, Paterno built his wins by beating mediocre teams.

Ladies and Gentlemen... the 'Grand Experiment'

...and this says nothing of the fact that during the last 10-15 years, he "coached" his teams by barely being awake in the press box and having zero input on the game (unless you believe that a coach in the press box without so much as a headset on can have a significant impact on a game).

Of course, by now we all know that Paterno was a complete fraud and morally and ethically bankrupt when it came to protecting his "legacy"

How about a look at the fraud that was the building of that very legacy in the first instance.

Paterno won 409 games. How many wins came against sub 500 competition?
Answer: 237

In games against sub .500 competition, Paterno was 237-12

How many wins came against a team with at least 10 wins?
Answer: 12

In games against teams which had 10 wins or more Paterno was 12-66

Just sayin....

Yea, but you're ignoring how he came into the Big Ten and dominated the conference winning 15 championships in 19 years, rolling up a .800 winning percentage against Ohio State and Michigan and bringing the conference its first national championship since 1968.

Me too:
In 19 years (let's count 2011 as a Paterno-coached team) of coaching in the Big Ten, I believe he coached Penn State to 3 Big Ten titles (1994, 2005, 2008). In contrast, Tressel coached 10 years in the Big Ten (yes, I'm counting 2010). Tressel won 7 Big Ten titles (2002, 2005-2010).

Someone posted Paterno's record as a Big Ten team, against Big Ten opponents. It may have been in this thread. But it was around .500. The conversation, at the time, was about whether Paterno's name should be on the championship trophy. I argued that he hasn't done enough as a Big Ten coach to even deserve for it to be there, regardless of what has come to light over the past year.

Just sayin....

Paterno's winning percentage in games against teams with 10 or more wins = .154

(Only Ohio State Record considered)
Jim Tressel was 14-11 against teams with 10 or more wins. .560 (Yes, that's right, in 10 years, Tress won 2 more games against such teams than Paterno managed over the course of 45 years)
John Cooper was 8-16-1 against teams with 10 or more wins .340
Earle Bruce was 2-8-1 against teams with 10 or more wins .227
Woody Hayes was 3-12-1 against teams with 10 or more wins. .219

Just to see, I compared Paterno over the Tressel years Paterno was 3-19 (.136) against 10 win teams from the period 2001 - 2010.

Who needs a headset when you have Guido getting your message across?

Fuck you for making me defend this fuckwit.

....But the prime of JoePa's career was at a time when teams played many fewer games than they do now. A 10-win team in 1970 is a lot better than a 10-win team in 2010. This is also evidenced by Woody's record against 10 win teams. In my IMO.

That's more like it. Fuck JoePa.

I agree.
He (paterno, that is) was 1-12 in such games from 1971-1980
