New York Jets defensive end Vernon Gholston expresses remorse for role in Braylon Edwards incident

Defensive end Vernon Gholston said he entered the number for Player Protect, an anonymous program fully paid for by the Jets to offer around-the-clock chauffeurs, into his phone after being a passenger while Braylon Edward allegedly drove drunk Tuesday.
"It's something that was just presented to us (recently)," Gholston said of Player Protect. "When you talk about going out, you never have that mind-set of drinking or what's necessary (if you do drink). In those cases, you're already out and things happen."
Gholston noted that confidentiality was not a concern. The team had introduced the offering last week, passing out fliers and paperwork for those interested in using the service. To his knowledge, Gholston said he was unaware that Edwards, who police reported blew a .16 into a Breathalyzer, was inebriated or in need of a designated driver.
"Moving forward, I'll be calling (Player Protect)," said Gholston, who expressed remorse for his role in the early-morning incident.
