Big Vern with a very very impressive day to say the least.

He's just re-confirmed what Buckeye fans have known all along....:biggrin:Vern is a BEAST!!

It was also stated elsewhere he was very impressive in his interviews as well. A great player with tremendous upside at a highly touted position in the NFL.

Congrats on a stellar job interview Mr. Gholston!!!!

Big Vern wanted to run a 4.4 so he's not satisfied with his time...:)

That's amazing. Can't even fathom I guy that big running a 40 that fast.

EDIT: Just realized that's my 500th post! Maybe I should've said something more profound! (Like, Go Bucks!)

Or fuck M*ch*g*n. Either one works. :wink2:

Holy schnikeys...what a TE he'd make. How'd you like to be a safety and have 270 pounds of muscle coming at you at 4.6 speed?

Combine Risers and Sliders: D-line

By Tony Pauline, Special to SI.com

Risers

Vernon Gholston, Ohio State: Gholston started his combine right weighing in at 266 pounds and then completing 37 reps on the bench, which equaled the mark of offensive tackle Jake Long. He was fast on the floor of the RCA Dome this morning, clocking 40 times in the low-4.6 area. He was fluid and showed great speed during the position workout. Gholston made millions for himself today.

Bengals will have to move up for OSU's Gholston

By Carlos "Big C" Holmes
Staff Writer

Tuesday, February 26, 2008

After a stellar playing career at Ohio State followed by a tremendous workout performance at the Combine, Buckeyes' DE Vernon Gholston has elevated his draft status from a potential Top 10 to a Top 5 pick.

The 6-foot-4 266-pound freak of nature wowed NFL scouts with his speed, strength, agility and athletic ability during drills at the Combine. Gholston is one imposing figure and a master of destruction on the playing field going from 0 to 60 in a millisecond to get all up in the quarterback's grill.
The sack master posted 22.5 sacks in his last two seasons with the Buckeyes.
I had a few scouts tell me that Gholston was the man to see in Indy and that was before his workout. They referred to him as the most intriguing prospect entering the draft.

NFL SCOUTING COMBINE
Gholston makes lasting impression
Ohio State DE likely top-10 pick after dazzling effort

By JOHN MCCLAIN
Copyright 2008 Houston Chronicle

With only defensive backs remaining to perform, the prospect who has used the NFL scouting combine to improve his stock more than any other player is Ohio State defensive end Vernon Gholston.

In a draft in which Virginia defensive end Chris Long could be the first player selected, Gholston secured his position as a top-10 pick and probably will be the second defensive lineman drafted.

The defensive linemen and linebackers worked out in the RCA Dome again Monday. Gholston (6-3, 266), an underclassman, ran the 40-yard dash in 4.67 seconds and lifted 225 pounds 37 times, tying the record for a defensive end.

"That's acceptable, but if I hadn't got off to a slow start, I could have done 40," Gholston said.

Gholston, who had 14 sacks as a junior, can play end in a 4-3 or outside linebacker in a 3-4.

"I'm not really uncomfortable with either one of them," he said. "In high school, I played linebacker, I played all around. So when I got to Ohio State, the biggest adjustment was becoming a defensive end with my hand on the ground.

"I love playing defensive end. I love getting after the quarterback and affecting the game that way. But at the end of the day, whatever the team that picks me wants."
