Might want to clarify that those are average starter's salaries.

Yea you're putting in way to much work, and if you've seen everygame you would remember how much they use to drop Vern back into coverage for better or worse. And he would start some downs in a two point stance I got tapes I know it happened. I'm just saying he projects as an outside linebacker in a 3-4. That position has responsibility more of a liking to a de than a lb position Gholston would play in a 3-4 would be like a weak side defensive end in a 4-3. He'd be a strongside LB in a 3-4 like Greg Ellis like Merriman, mainly pass rushers that play standing up. Watch what Vrable does Gholston will be used the exaxct same way at the next level. And Harrison plays weakside olb but thanks for helping give the Steelers as an example of the fad going on in the NFL, 3-4 teams drafting DE to play OLB.Woodley, LaMarr a college defensive end who at 6'2 262 was too small to play DE in the NfL and was drafted by the steelers to play OLB in a 3-4. Just like how the cowboys drafted Anthony Spencer last year. So Jame Harrison is great and all but I think you miss understood when I said weakside I was talking about a DE not a LB. He'll play the position that Clark Higgins and Woodley play for the steelers. Both DE in college. Browns, Cowboys, 49ers, Ravens all teams that run the 3-4 and have drafted smaller faster DE in the first round to play OLB in the 3-4. And I don't need no links to prove my shit... but its all good some good stats you're throwing at us.

Yes you do. You claimed the average LB in the NFL "is at least 10lbs heavier than 240." I provided links so you could read my homework.

You should read up on D-Linemen in a 3-4 scheme. Typically, the DL in a 3-4 are man eaters- meaning they consume space and bodies freeing up the LBs and safeties for pash rush. If you read my original post:

And we're not talking about Vrabel here- the average linebacker in the NFL is about 240. Big Vern is at 260 out of college (with no weight to shed). There's always the possiblity that another Kirkland will come around, but I don't see Vern as that type of lateral player (most of his pass rushes this year came in the form of straight ahead brute strength).

My claim is not that a 260 pound man can't play LB in the NFL. My opinion is specific to Vernon and my interpretation of his style.

BKB, what was your weight at OLB when you played in the League?

Haha yea that link does say you were right with the avg weight. But those are all listed which change about never, and as you said as people get oolder they gain weight. But I'll be wrong about that I still think hes gonna end up olb in a 3-4 and his abilities on the field are perfectly suited for that, or at least as much as Woodly, Spencer, or Wimbley.

It's not that there is NO lateral ability, it's just not as prevalent. It's different styles, that's why I don't think you'll see Vern at LB.

I think you're absolutely right about that. In game action, I didn't think Vern had the lateral mobility or the instincts standing up (one play against Illinois stands out in particular), but I guess that's just a personal opinion. Just playing devil's advocate with the Suggs comparison.

FYI, the previous numbers are for starters, but the average overall is DE $1,615,340 and OLB $1,102,985 (disparity of about $500,000). May be skewed for the sake of this conversation considering Vern will be a rookie, but he is also projected by many as the #2 DE in the 2008 NFL Draft (that could mean bigger money than all but one as rookie DEs in the NFL):

Agreed with above, I'm just saying he did it not that he was some hybred super freak who could man up on a TE one play and then bull rush Jake Long another. But from what I've seen the NFL doing with player like him is putting him outside in a 3-4.But we all know he can bull rush. forget the 07 scUM game and check out the 06 game. I remember this offseason mich fans on the scout board were talking about how long dominated Gholston that game, not true. Though he didn't have crazy statistics as in 07 their was one play he bullrush Long into Hart then Hart into Henne knocking Henne down as he got ride of the ball. Faviorate play of Gholstons for me. Longs a great tackle but you coud tell he never delt with someone with that much power.

Eh I don't know if it was the power so much as it was the combo of Gholston's speed and power
