DE Sam Hubbard (All B1G, National Champion, Cincinnati Bengals)

I think it is a combination of how high the offensive staff is on Noah Brown, and how unique Hubbard is as a linebacker. 6'5, 230 pound prospects with solid speed and great coverage skills are insanely rare.
I agree and can't wait to see what Hubbard can do at LB in the next few years. I also feel that more hybrid guys like Brown will be replacing the tight end position. Get a big guy like Brown with some speed, blocking ability and catching ability and now we have more versatility with the same lineup. Plus you get more of a potential home-run ability that tight ends just didn't have very often (I know some of our tight ends have made long runs after the catch).

@OSUCoachMeyer
Congrats to Noah Brown, Sam Hubbard, and Jalyn Holmes on losing their black stripes this morning after the scrimmage. Go Bucks!

Something I saw on channel 19 last night here in Cincinnati. Kerry Coombs was on Sports Wrap talking about the championship and about recruiting in Cincy. He mentioned Hubbard by name and said these words: before he is done at Ohio State many people are going to compare him (Hubbard) to JJ Watt.

Just wanted to share this with Buckeye fans outside of Cincy.

This guy in particular is one that I cannot wait to watch in the spring. He has been a terror in practice and the battle with Holmes for the starting gig should be epic. Both guys can really roll. I see Hubbard as a guy that can not only rush the passer, but could drop back into coverage with ease (high school safety and played some LB here). Really happy for Steve Miller and his pick 6, but Hubbard is a guy that could do that for us with regularity. Oh and we should probably change the thread title to "DE" now that the move seems permanent.

I keep coming back to his Lacrosse days and point to the agility he showed on that field. He very easily could drop into coverage a la Steve Miller's taking the ball and running.

Sad that we lost the next LAX kid in Ohio to football, but he would have been a Domer if he kept his stick in his hands. He'll be as athletic on the field as Bosa. Tall order, but he will be.

Yeah he'll be as athletic, just needs to adapt to the position and make sure he is not a liability against the run (no idea how he is developing there but I know he has been rushing the passer). But think about two 6'6 trees on the edges that can move on 3rd down...could be a deadly combo.

The great thing is, if both are talented enough, they'll both see the field in a rotation. Can you imagine opposing QBs thinking they have a breather when Hubbard steps off the field to rest, only to have Holmes enter the game? :yow2:

And with his athleticism he could be a perfect Viper candidate. Able to stand up, put his hands down, rush the passer and drop into coverage.
