While the commitment of Thaddeus Gibson yesterday gives Ohio State possibly the strongest group of linebackers in the nation this recruiting season, he also might have blown Ray Small’s cover.
Gibson, of Euclid, said he was looking forward not only to reuniting with former teammate Brandon Smith at OSU, but Cleveland Glenville’s "Robert Rose and Ray Small are coming down, too."
While Rose, a defensive end, already had announced for Ohio State, Small, a receiver, was hoping to wait until letterof-intent signing day Feb. 1.
"You better let him make his own announcement," Gibson said, catching himself. "I do know he likes Ohio State."
Small, who has made no secret of that while continuing to assert Southern California was still in the running, could not be reached for comment. But his committment would put three Glenville players in this class, including lineman Bryant Browning, and they’d join four other Tarblooders already at OSU.
OSU’s 19 th commitment, Gibson (6 feet 2, 215 pounds), is considered the nation’s No. 9 linebacker prospect by Scout.com. Also in this class are No. 12 Mark Johnson of Los Angeles, No. 14 Ross Homan of Coldwater and No. 23 Ty Moeller of Colerain.
"You will be hard-pressed to find a better group of linebackers in any recruiting class in the country, which is important because it is also Ohio State’s biggest need," said Rivals.com analyst Bill Kurelic, noting the Buckeyes lost starters A.J. Hawk, Anthony Schlegel and Bobby Carpenter. "Ohio State has hit a home run, a grand slam, really."

Gibson's addition is also significant for OSU. It puts in place one of the final missing pieces of a defense that needed to replace a ton of talent. Gibson is good enough to come in and see the field early for the Buckeyes.
