DE/LB Nathan Williams (official thread)

We need Williams this year because we don't have that much depth if you really look at it. This is where I really wish Gibson stayed around for one more year! Good to hear though that he's atleast walkin around instead of in an air cast on crutches!

Williams running well

Tressel said he expects defensive end Nathan Williams (knee injury) to play against Miami. It appeared he was almost ready to go against Marshall.

Expected to replace Thaddeus Gibson on the line this season, Williams was hurt early in preseason camp and kept out of practice since then. The decision was to let it heal without surgery, and indications in warm-ups were that his knee is coming along fine. During the huge huddle in pregame near midfield in which many of the players are jumping, he was in the midst of it doing the same, even though he wasn't in pads. And as the defensive linemen moved from one station to another, he sprinted along, helping direct some drills.

It's good he's coming back, but he missed a lot of time. I have no idea what kind of shape he's going to be in?

We had one sack last week, which came from Moeller.

Some big boys need to step up. I would like to see more Hankins, he looked great.

The reason why they only had 1 sack is because Marshall designed their game plan to get the ball out quickly. And just because they didn't get more sacks doesn't mean they didn't get pressure on the quarterback. I saw in many instances where Heyward, Simon, Larimore, and even Hankins got relatively close to knocking the QB on his behind. The OSU coaches knew this and prepared for this, as Tressel confirmed with his press conference today.
