2009 NFP scouting series: Ohio State
Buckeyes prospects worth watching this season.

This summer, the National Football Post is breaking down every team in the Football Bowl Subdivision (formerly known as Division I-A) to identify players who might warrant interest from NFL teams in the 2010 draft.
The Ohio State Buckeyes again have a talented group of NFL prospects and are definitely one of the favorites to capture the Big Ten title.
Defense
NOTE: Ohio State DE Lawrence Wilson has had a tough time staying on the field over the past two years, suffering season-ending injuries in 2007 and 2008. But if he can stay healthy in ?09, Wilson certainly possesses the talent to warrant a draftable grade and is a guy to watch.

No. 20: Senior defensive end Lawrence Wilson
Two years ago, Wilson's season ended with a broken right leg in the season-opener, in a game in which he was looking even more intimidating than Vernon Gholston. Last year, his season ended with a torn left ACL in week seven, though he hadn't shown quite the burst of the year before.
Wilson rehabbed with the idea of being back for fall camp. He'll join a defensive line that could go a solid six-deep at the end spot. With what he was before the injuries, Wilson deserves to be on this list. In a group with Thaddeus Gibson and Cam Heyward and Nathan Williams and Solomon Thomas, he could still make a difference if he's anywhere near healthy.
It's hard to count on him as a regular, but even on a part-time basis, he has the talent to help. And whether he's on the field or not, his natural leadership and selflessness off the field helps every one of his teammates on the defensive line and makes Ohio State better
Wilson is also coming off a season-ending injury, his second in two years after having earned a starting position in both of the last two seasons before having his year cut short by a leg injury.
"I'm feeling about 90 percent right now and I'm feeling better every day," Wilson said last week on photo day.
"By the season, the first couple of games, I'll be 100 percent.
"There's just a little soreness here and there, but other than that it feels great.
"My knee feels great and I'm ready to go. My conditioning is great, I passed the conditioning test pretty easily. I feel good running."
Wilson is also hungry. As a fifth-year senior, this is his last go-round as a Buckeye, something of which he is acutely aware, and he wants to be on the field despite the competition youngsters like Wells and Williams bring for playing time.
"This is my fifth media day. You blink and the time has passed by. I've learned a lot and I'm ready to play," Wilson said.
"It's my last year. Lord willing I'll stay healthy. I'm just excited to play and excited to show what I have and what I can still do."
Wilson eager to strut his stuff

After two years of injuries, Lawrence Wilson, a fifth-year senior defensive end, says he's ready to prove himself.
As if being 6 feet 4 and 274 pounds wasn't enough, Lawrence Wilson decided he wanted to do something to stand out.
All summer, he worked on a hairstyle that's best described as a partial Mohawk -- a high strip of hair down the middle of his head, and short but not shaved bald down the sides.
It looks like a squirrel lying in the grass.
"It's something fun," he said. "I just wanted to do something different."
Something different would be a very good thing for Wilson, an Ohio State defensive end whose past two seasons have been ended by major injuries: a broken right leg in the 2007 opener and a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left leg halfway through last year.
Now a fifth-year senior, he came into preseason camp excited, proclaiming his knee fully healed and eager to finally fulfill his considerable potential.
"I have to reintroduce myself, because not everybody knows (about me)," he said. "I only played half a season. I made a few plays here and there, but I didn't establish myself the way I wanted to. I believe these first three or four games is going to be me re-establishing myself to the fans and to the nation what I can do."
But less than two weeks into camp, Wilson sat out the jersey scrimmage. At Monday's open practice, he participated in individual drills but not in full-team situations.
That does not appear to be a good sign.
"Lawrence has been a guy that's been kind of ongoing," coach Jim Tressel said. "I think he's getting a little bit fresher. When you're coming off major surgeries, I think the training causes a little bit of slowness to coming back."
Heacock and Bollman tidbits
The two coordinators graced us with their presence tonight :), and here's what I think we learned:
-- DE Lawrence Wilson may play a bit more this week, they've been bringing him along slowly, but they need all the help they can get against USC. Heacock mentioned Rob Rose, as well.
