DE Lawrence Wilson (official thread)

Wilson dropped some weight with healthier eating habits, and is ready to go.

"Lawrence is having a good camp so far. He's back and he looks 100 percent," said Heacock.

Wilson is fully recovered and has slimmed down from 275 last year to the 260-265 range this season.

"I feel quicker, a lot quicker, and I don't get as tired as fast," said Wilson.

Wilson dropped most of that weight in the month just prior to the start of fall camp. He credits a change in his menu and drinking
habits for the weight loss.

"I'm eating a lot of salad," he said.

"I like salad. I tried to cut out the fried foods. I try to go with the grilled chicken, I eat fruit at breakfast and a little bit of oatmeal. I try to not to eat as much cheese. I cut the cheese out of omelets and I drink just water. I drink Gatorade after football, but then I drink just water."

Beginning of the end II: Wilson back, and better

Thursday, August 14, 2008 Doug Lesmerises
Plain Dealer Reporter

Columbus- The defensive end looked quick and disruptive, blowing by the offensive tackle and springing into the backfield. The other defensive end was the future No. 6 pick in the NFL draft.
A second look at Ohio State's opener against Youngstown State last season showed 17 plays in which Lawrence Wilson and Vernon Gholston share the field on opposite ends of the Buckeyes' defensive front. Wilson was the one who recorded Ohio State's first sack of the season, made another tackle in the backfield and twice forced the Penguins' quarterback to hurry because of his pressure.
Wilson was also the one who broke his right leg on his 17th - and what would be his final - play of the season. Gholston was the one who went on and broke Ohio State's sack record with 14, left school with a year of eligibility remaining and scored a $21 million signing bonus with the New York Jets.

Its gonna be sweet seeing him on the field again...

I'm excited, between him and Heyward its just a great feeling. Both can stop the run, both and rush the passer and Cam with his great abilities and size can also move inside if needed.

good stuff.

Wilson?s dream really fractured; Buckeye eager to test broken leg

bilde

Coach Jim Tressel, left, and a team doctor examine Lawrence Wilson?s leg in Ohio State?s opener against Youngstown State last year.

By MATT MARKEY
BLADE SPORTS WRITER

COLUMBUS ? The images that flutter through Lawrence Wilson?s mind in the middle of the night are not those that customarily fill the deepest sleep of most 21-year-old college students.

He is not envisioning the comforts of wealth and success he hopes to find after graduation, or tricked-out cars, exotic beaches and beautiful women. The movie screen in Wilson?s innermost psyche keeps returning to a short, mundane clip that involves gladiator-style physical battles, the anvil-like weight of demanding expectations, and 105,000 eye witnesses to every performance.

Wilson, a junior defensive end at Ohio State, broke his right leg in the first game of the 2007 season and has spent the past 12 months recovering, rehabbing and letting his mind?s eye tease him with notions of returning to the field for the
Buckeyes.

?I have dreams about it,? Wilson said as Ohio State prepares for its 2008 opener against Youngstown State on Saturday. His injury, a fractured fibula, occurred against that same team on Sept. 1 last season in a 38-6 win by the Buckeyes.

?I have dreams about the first game, about coming back, and it?s weird because I?ve had them multiple times. I?m so excited to get back out there and prove to my teammates I can still make plays.?

Commentary: Wilson knew what injured Wells was feeling

August 30, 2008 - 7:14PM
Jim Naveau

COLUMBUS - Lawrence Wilson's mind raced back to last year faster than Usain Bolt exploding out of the starting blocks in the 100-meter dash when he saw Chris Wells lying on the turf at Ohio Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
A year ago, Wilson - a talented 6-foot, 4-inch, 275-pound defensive end - was poised to have a huge season for Ohio State. Maybe even the kind of season that would have led him to consider an early exit to the NFL.
He gave the fans a preview of what they might expect when he got a quarterback sack early in the 2007 opener against Youngstown State.
But not long after that sack, he went down with a broken right leg and missed the rest of the season. His junior year became a redshirt season.

That pick by Wilson was downright disgusting. For a man that large to be so nimble and athletic is honestly frightening. What a bad ass mofo.

You know he was smelling 6 too. Did you see him kick it into second gear when he grabbed it? :) Would've been so cool if he could've gotten into the endzone.

haha, I was laughing my ass of when I saw him lean his head back and appear to want to run faster...but it wasn't really going to work with their athletic QB chasing him down.

Still one of the most impressive plays yesterday. Wilson is an eventual 1st rounder.
