DE Lawrence Wilson (official thread)

sorry, it's been a week (a very slooow week) but any news on LW?:osu:

Bucknuts

"Lawrence is doing good,? Tressel said. ?I don't know that Lawrence will be ready to play. We've been trying to get (him) moving along so that maybe he could give us a little time. He has gotten in and played football the last three or four practices. But, you know, if the game were today, I don't think he'd played.

"The guys we were hoping would be healthy are. The guys we thought maybe could come back a little bit, Lawrence was probably the only one because Curtis Terry and Ross Homan we've made conscious decisions to redshirt. Outside of that, Lawrence is the one that we thought that maybe we'd get a little bonus, but I just, today, the 28th or 29th, whatever this is, of December, I don't see it.?

Acording to Tressel, via PD, Lawrence is unlikely to play in BCS champ. game.

Hopefully Rob Rose will be recovered from shoulder surgery and full go.

Otherwise or DE rotation has gotten real thin. Gibson, and especially Barrow could see quite a few snaps.

Alot of healing can occur in 9 days. Hopefully LW is getting full strength back in his leg and will be ready to give us 20-25 plays for the game. Regardless, we are going to need guys like Barrow and Gibson to really step up. Perhaps even Mark Johnson can help out on the edge. But we have to have some guys that can give Gholston and Heyward a rest from time to time.

I really think that Gibson could cause some havoc in pass rushing situations. His speed is impressive and he has a mean streak. I like the idea of Gibson and Gholston coming off the edge.

Hopefully, our Offense will be able to control the clock and keep our D off the field so the One's will be fresh and good to go for most of the game.

Hopefully Lawrence can play but Gibson really can play when he has gotten a chance. I don't remember which game it was but he bull rushed the RT and knocked the guy right off his feet.

Plus I don't think Tressel is going to rush Wilson so its hard to say if he is going to be able to play or not.

Thanks for the update Tresselbeliever.:oh:

sounds doubtful LW plays...tOSU defense being slim at DE worries me a bit, but only a little bit. tOSU always has hungry players ready to step up and make a play.

However, this game will come down to more than just tOSU DE's it's just disappointing to not have LW in this one. On the bright side, if he doesn't play he'll still have 2 years of eligibility to make another run at a NC next year or the year after.

I'm still pulling for him to be ready by the 7th!!:wink2:

It seemed JT chose his words about LW playing very carefully. There are still 8 days and I don't know how many practices for him to get up to playing speed sufficient to play some reps if not a lot. I hope so. With Rose out, I think depth at DE is going to be a factor in this game. Gibson and other backups, I don't have a feel about, but hopefully they too can contribute.

Go Bucks!

Wilson Still Doubtful: Defensive end Lawrence Wilson suffered a broken leg in the first game of the season has not played since. Wilson has however returned to the practice field leaving some to wonder if he could participate in the bowl game. OSU defensive coordinator and defensive line coach Jim Heacock says probably not.

"He had a good practice yesterday and he's getting better and better and better but is he ready to go? I don't think he was at home," said Heacock.
"Down here I thought yesterday he looked good, but now how is he going to come back after yesterday's practice.

"I doubt it seriously," said Heacock of Wilson's prospects of playing.
The upside to Wilson's non-participation is that he can apply for and probably get a medical redshirt year and extend his Buckeye career is he does not play in the bowl game.

was his injury worse than initially thought? or maybe just didn't heal as quickly?

After the injury the speculation was that he'd be out 6-8 weeks and could be back for Wisconsin game....as it turns out he isn't ready 16 weeks later?

They want him 100%. A bgone break may take 6-8 weeks to heal but he then needs to do the conditioning to regain strength. My guess would be that this is the problem. The bone is healed but he hasn't regained 100% strength and mobility.

Honestly, it makes no sense to me for a guy to play that hasn't had reps all season. He's just way too far behind at this point to be a factor IMO.

The initial prognosis was that he would be out for 6-8 weeks, meaning that within 8 weeks they expected him to be able to back on the field.

I agree with, not playing him if he isn't ready, and blowing a redshirt year for a handful of ineffective plays, but it sure would be nice to have another solid DE in the rotation with Rose out as well.
