Saw the Abor picture and said all Jackson needed was the physical growth and some LJ Sr coaching. Well check the box for physical growth on both Abor and Jackson, if their technique has improved they are seeing the field. Curry should also be primed to play as well, if we have those 3 behind JT and Jack, front 4 should be dirty (with Hall and Tyleik being a great interior, hopefully Kanu, Hamilton and McKenzie can contribute).

Agree with every position above. Good talent, except for DE, not a lot of experience. How to balance and keep everyone happy. Believe Knowles wants starters to play most minutes, but....remembering that he didn't have the greatest amount of depth at Okie Light, Coach Johnson's substitution policies (keep everyone fresh) may of course work well here. Or not, and LJ rides off into the sunset. Forget who said it, but most everyone on the 1's and 2's could be starters elsewhere. Same with LBers. Got two sure-fire starters, sure, but piling up #2's won't work if they're not on the field much. DBs, everyone looks spectacular - on paper, but need the results to back it up. Here's hoping that with all these great ingredients, there is a smooth, high-powered defensive cake/torte etc waiting at the end of day.

Kenyatta Jackson’s freshman season was a quiet one.
Despite entering the program as a top-100 overall recruit and one of the 10 best edge rusher prospects in the nation, the Hollywood, Florida, native didn’t get many opportunities to show off his talent on the field. Jackson appeared in just three games for the Buckeyes defensively, playing no more than 12 snaps in any of them and finishing the season with 24 snaps in total.
That didn’t lessen any hopes for what the 6-foot-5, 252-pound defensive end might eventually become, but in terms of Ohio State’s trio of second-year DEs, Caden Curry seemed to be the player most had pegged for a breakout spring.
Then Jackson started making noise.
For a unit that needed to round out its depth behind projected starters JT Tuimoloau and Jack Sawyer ahead of 2023, Jackson answered the bell more definitively than any of his running mates, impressing spectators with standout moments in several scrimmages, practices and the spring game and earning praise from the Buckeye coaching staff at every turn. As a result, Jackson finds himself in position to carry a great deal of momentum into the preseason, where he can earn a meaningful role on Larry Johnson’s defensive line in just his second season of college football.

Definitely would be huge if Jackson steps up to rotate in, looked great in the spring and hopefully Abor joins him and Curry. Those 3 behind JT and Sawyer could make up for one hell of a DE group.

A solid 5 man DE rotation covers up blown coverages that doomed this defense late last season. Idc if they don’t produce the sack totals, as long as they can disrupt the QB’s and cause offensive dysfunction

Agreed. Hope the #2s get some meaningful minutes - to get them field experience, and keep them interested. Believe tOSU will lose several DLers this NFL draft, maybe four? Hate to read in the magazines - "had talent coming out of HS, but isn't very experienced..." regarding our DL (or DB) kids. Someone said it, that Knowles didn't have the depth at Okie Light, but certainly does at tOSU. Maybe he should incorporate Coach J's philosophy of 'keeping 'em fresh' by substituting them more. I've gotten over the 'starters are the best', so believe that the best are in there at the finish of the game (when game is on the line, not the blow-outs). Go Bucks!

I would expect a 5 man rotation like @pnuts34 said above...Jack and JT will be on the field most of the time but I would expect Jackson and Curry to get on the field plenty, Abor hopefully is out there as well. I see Jack and JT being the premiere DE group in the nation and first round picks, all while being able to get our younger pups some chances to bite and gain experience.

The question with Knowles will be : Can an old dog learn new tricks. Because he isn't known for substituting much. I'm sure much of that has to do with being at programs who only have good talent on the starter level, this is his highest profile job. And I'm sure last year he felt a lot of pressure and worried about the drop off from the 1s to 2s. But after a season in Cbus, he should know that there shouldn't be much drop off at the end of a game against say Indiana, or even in certain situations against even Ped St or MSU, give Steele or Tommy a rest and trust in CJ, Simon, Carrico, etc

Pnut, believe Knowles can learn. At Duke, Ok St, he didn't have anything like the depth here. Therefore he played the 1's exclusively. Here's he's got players that are a smidge better than the 2's. Keeping 'em fresh might have meant the difference in catching a WR, or not slipping on the turf last season. Speculation, surely, and now having the time in grade this year cetainly proves that point. As Coop "coached coaches", Day needs to coach his coaches up as well. Maybe tOSU uses a group consensus, but Coach J has used his model to success. Hartline to a lesser extent substitutes his WRs as well, and the DBs get their 'blows' after chasing WRs down the field on fly patterns. Have read on these pages that the OL needs to play together to provide cohesion, switching cross patterns, picking up blitzers, and can see that. Maybe utilize hockey substitution patterns - substituting entire Olines? Heck, between all of our opinions, I'd bet vcash that we've come up with the answers that Day & Co will utilize this season.
