DE Jack Sawyer (All B1G)

4. JACK SAWYER, EDGE, OHIO STATE

The Buckeyes' 2022 roster is loaded and there's more than a half-dozen players to choose from who could fall under the "rising star" label, but considering Jack Sawyer's importance to Ohio State's overhaul defensively under Jim Knowles, he's the pick here. The hype train left the station for Sawyer during spring and fall camp last year when he played his way onto the Buckeyes' two-deep and was expected to have a sizable role on defense. His commitment to Ohio State in February of 2019 resulted instant comparisons to former Scarlet and Gray stars of the same position such as the Bosa brothers and Chase Young, but he only appeared in six games as a freshman, making 11 tackles and three sacks. If you're looking for the breakout year, this is it for Sawyer, who could star at the "Jack" position for Knowles and the Buckeyes.

Retired from the Dispatch, yes.

He seems like a nice guy, just completely unlistenable.

Ah ok, didn't know it was just Dispatch. Since it is Sawyer's thread, I will deviate back to him and leave my feelings for May aside. From what I have seen of Jack this spring, his physical growth seems to have improved a lot with Coach Mic time and you would assume his technique would be much better after a year with LJ Sr. The talent has always been there, so if the strength and technique come along, look out. I will make a not so bold prediction in calling that Sawyer will be our best DE this year (run and pass rush). I almost said a Bosa-like sophomore year, but that I am trying my best not to expect each next great DE at OSU to be at that level because it is rare.
