i think what we learned, more than anything, during the ttun game is that mccarthy isn't the joke we've been making him out to be.

My takeaway is a little different. We're right about McCarthy. He's a joke. It's just our secondary... is... uhhhh... can't really finish this without banhammer.
Let's just say they could improve a lot.

I agree, but it's not like our CBs were put in advantageous situations. Knowles played the risk-reward game, and he gambled big and took massive risks in sending pressure at McCarthy, and also focusing mainly on the run game. And it bit him in the arse. But that's the risk you take, and I applaud him having the cojones to have the gameplan, problem is, those DBs didn't tackle well in space, and most likely need assistance. It doesn't mean that they suck, it just means that they needed help, and there should've been a S to help, as opposed to the Safeties focusing on the LOS instead of the WRs.

My only slight counterpoint/argument to this is that first missed tackle was just inexcusably poor form, effort and desire from a guy who has been around. It was awful and unacceptable. To hear him interview now and say he had to leave the game with a little stinger that wasn't really a big deal makes me wonder a lot more about the player than Knowles decision in that one particular instance.

I’ve harped on this a lot… but a ton of this was really just poor execution. We can throw the book at Knowles for trying to run it this way, but if the execution is there then the coverage works. Maybe he expected too much of them and that can be pinned on him, but they didn’t execute and played out of position/got lost/fell down on multiple plays.

I've never been a big fan of Brown, can't stay healthy, and is suspect in coverage. He's basically living off of his speed, but not really any other talents. But the problem is, he was probably the best option, or at least the most experienced option opposite of Burke, and that's why they kept rolling with him.

True. All the recruiting swings and misses, injuries and lack of development over the past 3-4 years have the CB room not even looking like an OSU level unit really. I pray to Woody the '22 and '23 classes fix that because it's a train wreck.

It's ripe for some portal moves imo.
CB has proven to be a position that needs a little experience before they're good. I can remember multiple shutdown 1st round guys that had issues their first season with us.

It's time to bring in 1 or 2 dudes that are already established and confident.

Exactly why I think we'll be levels better next year at corner specifically. Brown is fast but so is everyone else on the field really. Gets dunked on way too much out there and obviously the missed tackles are a liability too.
