DB Tyvis Powell (National Champion)

Also, I think an elite athlete has a better chance of breaking into a starting position on offense (Wilson). Speed and athleticism isn't enough in the DB. No doubt Vonn will be a stud but projecting him ahead of Powell right now isn't fair to either of them.

So rich in talent in the defensive backfield. Any number of guys could play and do a stellar job imho. At the same time, it is nice to see a guy like Powell, who did not have as much press as some others, step it up and earn a starting job (for now).

I have no clue how I haven't commented on this thread or Tyvis yet. For shame, because this guy is just a freaking stud as a person. Not going to find an easier guy to root for, on and off the field. From his comments about Beating That School Up North as being "the bowl game" to prof's story and all the messages about Buckeye Nation motivating him...man, kid is simply stud.

Seriously, a pleasure to read his stories and thoughts as he fights tooth and nail for the Scarlet and Grey. Good luck this season, Tyvis!

Can't wait to see this kid on the field this year. His height alone is very intriguing because he causes mismatches with length and athleticism. When he committed to osu, he seemed like an intriguing prospect. A lot of very good depth at CB and S. though bell may not start just yet, he'll still see the field a ton. But Powell has speed to go with his size to be all over slot WRs and TEs

Seeing as that would mean OSU would have to replace 4 of the 5 DB spots, I would not take that bet.
I watched Vonn Bell on kickoff coverage. He's going to be a great one here, as is Gareon Conley. And the corners (Burrows and Apple) I believe are going to be terrific, too. I see more question marks at LB, and Tyvis has the size (and appears to have the frame) to play at the weight necessary to be a backer. Your point about departing DBs is well-taken, though.
