DB Malcolm Jenkins (All B1G, All-American, Thorpe Award, All-Pro, 2x Super Bowl Champion)

Just a little upset/surprised that SI doesn't have Malcolm as one of the potential top 25 to be draftees. I'm sure his name was in the hat...but 2 or 3 other corners got the nod he didn't.

Should be first team All Big-10 if not first/second team All-American to start the season.

Football Buckeyes Lace Up Track Spikes for 2007 Jesse Owens Classic

Relay events to feature football players Saturday in Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Now that spring practice has concluded for the football team, several Buckeyes have turned their attention to the track and will run in the 2007 Jesse Owens Classic Saturday in Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium. The Classic is in its 22nd running and has been the stage for numerous Olympians such as Roger Kingdom, Carl Lewis, Edwin Moses and Ohio State's own Butch Reynolds.

Last week at the Drake Relays, three Ohio State football players made their track debuts in the 4x100-meter relay. Freshman defensive back Chimdi Chekwa (Chim-dee Cheek-wah), junior All-Big Ten cornerback Malcolm Jenkins and sophomore wide receiver Dan Potokar joined All-Big Ten sprinter Anthony Cole in setting a season-best in the event at 41.57. The unit will look to improve that mark at approximately 4 p.m. Saturday.

A first-team all-league selection at cornerback last season, Jenkins was a track standout at Piscataway High School in New Jersey. He won a state title as a junior in the 400 meters and finished third in state in the 200m as a senior. He also ran hurdles, posting another third-place finish his senior season.

Cont'd ...

Both good and bad- I think Malcolm Jenkins will be the Buckeyes best pro prospect at the end of this season.

The good- He'll have an outstanding year and other teams WR's will suffer the consequences.

The bad- He'll probably declare for the NFL draft after his JR. year.

Hope I'm wrong about the bad but with Chimdi coming on, we'll survive it if he does.

For cornerback Malcolm Jenkins of Ohio State, the football sky seems to be the limit and could a pro career be just around that proverbial corner?

The preseason college football publications have hit the newsstands and Piscataway's Jenkins has been tabbed a preseason All-America first team selection. That's in addition to be a Big Ten Conference All-Defensive first team selection again.
But that's not all when writing about the 6-foot-1, 202-pound junior who may opt for the NFL after the upcoming 2007 season, which begins with practice in a little more than two weeks. The Ohio State staff and some of the publications are touting Jenkins as a Jim Thorpe Award candidate, which honors the nation's most outstanding defensive back. Thorpe was named an All-American for Carlisle in 1911 and 1912 and earned College and Pro Football Hall of Fame distinction. He was voted the greatest athlete for the first half of the century.

With kids these days declaring early when they're rated as "first-day" and not "first-round" talent, we can color Malcolm gone after this year. Let's all be sure to enjoy his play this season...
