DB/LB Chad Hagan (official thread)

Just a thought, with no basis other than that, but what about WR? I don't think the 220 he's listed at is accurate... I hear around 210 or less may be more likely... And I believe he's 6-2 at most. So why not WR? He seems to catch the ball well in those highlights and from what I've been told... And we know he's got speed...

Like I said, just a thought...

See Post #86. You guys are on the same page. Could be! I still tend to think safety, for the same reasons you think WR, just a thought. Staff seems to like versatility.

Haha... Didn't catch that. Thanks Poe, and great idea army!

We are recruiting him as a S first and foremost, but you are right about the versatility...

I think S is more of a need than WR in this class though, so I believe that is still where he will start...

lol, I thought I had deja vu for a second, I kept looking at the date and time of your post. I agree, the 230 has to be incorrect. I think he has Hines or Moeller written all over him. I'm not an expert in analyzing recruiting videos etc... what's the biggest knock on him? hitting, lateral moves?

Very hard to evaluate on highlight film alone, especially only one... Those I talk to that have seen him play say that his athleticism doesn't always translate to the field... Sometimes he disappears. Part of that, they acknowledge, is that his teammate, LB Mike Hull, makes a boat-load of plays on D... But I think it's also that Chad is still learning how to be a football player.

I will also add that I think Hagan's development was kind of re-started by taking his Sophomore year off of football... So this year it is possible we could see the kid blow up on the field...

tOSU's staff always seems to be a little ahead of the curve with offers to kids like this...

This kid seems to have the Star position written all over him, but could end up growing into an OLB when its all said and done. That would be his best position if he wants to make it to the NFL at the size he is now. The kids only going to get bigger, let's hope he keeps that speed too. He can be one of those kids thats a terror in space and helps stop some of the spread offenses that we'll see.

That's my knock...he is by all accounts a great athlete but I just don't see it when he is in pads. A similar example is WR Kyle Jefferson from Glenville who plays at Wisconsin now...he was a gifted athlete but it just didn't translate to the field. But I do agree that OSU usually has a good track record with players like this but usually they look good on offense at least. For example Zach Domicone, Jermale Hines, Ohrian Johnson, and Anderson Russell...I liked all 4 of those guys offensive film and you could see how their abilities could translate well to defense, even if there wasn't much defensive film. On the other end, I was never crazy about Pentello on film for the same reason as Hagan. I'll still wait to see his senior film to pass much judgement though, as I wasn't aware he didn't play his sophmore year.

I think it's hard to pass much judgment at all from that film RB, and that's the only one that I've seen on the net... Not much at all to work with there.

FIfy!

To further my point earlier, think Anthony Gonzalez. He was a DB in high school and the staff brought him in as a WR/project. He redshirted his first year and after that the rest is history.

IIRC DL didn't like the coaches offering Gonzalez.

From the limited film available, you guys have mentioned a kid that doesn't have great lateral movement, doesn't seem to have the defensive mentality and yet he has Star written all over him. Sorry, but aren't those attributes one needs to play Star?

The more I think about it the more I think this kid is a WR/project assuming his posted 40 times are accurate and that Hagen does indeed have an OSU offer.
