Dayton Flyers (Official Thread)

I agree. If they finish 1-2, then that'll put them at 24-7 overall and 10-6 in conference. I don't think 10-6 in the A-10 gets them in.

Unless they would make a run to the finals of the tourney...

Defend home court like we have all year and we'll have a bye in the A-10 and should be firmly in... Temple's RPI is going to make that one a big victory should we come away with it...

That's true--I think even if they finish 1-2, they will make it if they can get to the A-10 finals.

FWIW, I heard on Mike and Mike this morning that they had some sort of mock NCAA tournament selection a few weeks back with members of the actual committee, and they said that RPI doesn't come up as a factor when determining which teams make it and which do not. They were very surprised by that, and so am I. RPI seems like as good a method as any of comparing teams in different conferences.

That's contradictory to what they've said in the past...

Interesting that they finish the way they do, losing 2 of their last 4...but their SOS went up so much, that their RPI is the highest has been all year...22. With an RPI at 22, whether the committee says they look at it or not, they are in. I say even if they lose their first game in the A-10 tournament against Richmond/St. Bonnie, they will still get in. Right now I'd say we are an 8/9 seed. Lose the first game and I bet we are a 10/11. Win the damn tournament and I'd say a 6/7. 6 seed would be sweet.

Sounds like a good assessment... I agree with pretty much everything. I'd love to see the Flyers get hot and give Xavier a run for it's money in the tourney, but it seems like year in and year out Xavier turns up the intensity around this time...

This isn't the same type of Gayvier team though... They've struggled mightily away from home this year, and I think they peaked early... They're going to have their hands full in the A-10 and NCAA's... They'll get over-seeded because of rep and a win over Memphis before the Tigers stabilized... They'll be an early out this year and not make the Sweet 16, that's my call...

Poor perimeter defense doomed us in that last game... We were within 6 three different times and they hit 3's...

Yes we lost 2 of the last 4, but the committee looks at final 12 when deciding. In that period we are currently 8-4 and can be no worse than 7-5... That should be good enough with our track record...

I agree, with the sole caveat that if Dayton drops the ball in the first round of the A-10 tourney, there is an outside shot that they get shut out of the dance--the committee may not look very favorably upon a 7-5 record to close the season in a conference of the caliber of the A-10.
