Gilman?s Cyrus Jones has decided to reconsider an offer from Ohio State after the Buckeyes hired Urban Meyer as their new football coach. Jones dropped West Virgnia from consideration but said Wednesday that Alabama, Auburn, Maryland and Virginia Tech remain in the running for his talents. The versatile senior gained 2,365 all-purpose yards this fall and scored 24 touchdowns for the No. 1 and MIAA A Conference champion Greyhounds.
Ohio State had been on Jones? Top 10 list, but it dropped off along with Florida, Notre Dame, Penn Sate and Virginia when he first pared his list to five. The Buckeyes moved back onto Jones' recruiting radar Monday when they hired Meyer, who won two national titles at Florida.
?Urban Meyer is a great, great coach,? Jones said. ?He had a great reputation from Florida and also coach [Luke] Fickell, who was the interim coach, he?s still going to be on the coaching staff, so that?s why I wanted to keep him around because me and him had a great relationship previously with him being my recruiter for this area.?
