Here are 15 prospects just from Baltimore City and Baltimore County to keep an eye on in 2011.

2. Cyrus Jones, RB/WR, Gilman
The 5-foot-11, 185-pound Jones is a four-star prospect and ranks No. 224 on the Rivals 250. That's probably a little low, considering Jones' uncanny athleticism -- 4.4 40-yard-dash speed and unreal explosiveness -- but it hasn't hurt his offer list. Jones currently has more than 30 offers from schools in every BCS conference. The list includes Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Miami, Michigan, Iowa, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Oregon, Penn State, Stanford, Virginia Tech and his hometown school, Maryland. He is said to be favoring Alabama after a recent visit to Tuscaloosa.

Scout's Take: "[Gilman] is losing a great player in [four-star recruit] Darius Jennings, but Cyrus is a great player in his own right. You're going to see a kid who's very special. He has blinding, breakaway speed, a rocket arm and he's a very natural runner. He could be the Denard Robinson of the MIAA." -- Gilman coach Biff Poggi

ATH Cyrus Jones gets competitive

BALTIMORE -- Meet Cyrus Jones -- the father, not the prospect.

Most recuitniks already know Junior. He's the four-star athlete prospect from Gilman High School.

As for the elder Jones, he's a bit more behind the scenes despite a prominent role in his son's life.

"My father is always on me," Jones Jr. said. "He's always been a competitive guy. He never let me slack. If I do something, I'm going to put the best foot forward."

While every father wants his son to have a better life than he did, Jones Sr. had some specific areas he was going to address.

First, he would be there for his son. Jones Sr. knew all too well what it was like to not have a father around.

"Every negative I had in my life I used as motivation," he said. "From my father not being around, I always made sure I'd be around my kids and guide them so they could develop and grow."

College recruiters already knew as much. Jones has 30 scholarship offers and is just starting to whittle down his list. He'll visit Virginia Tech and Virginia during the last weekend of July.

"Both of those schools are in the top 10," he said.

When asked what other schools are in his top 10, Jones rattled off Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Ohio State, Notre Dame, Miami, Maryland, West Virginia and Penn State.

Gilman's Cyrus Jones taking his time

A list that started with more than 40 schools was eventually pared down to 10. Countless conversations with college coaches and interviews with media outlets took place during that process, and will continue to occur throughout the next several months. But for Cyrus Jones, the chaotic existence of being a highly coveted four-star recruit has never been a bother.

?It wasn?t as hectic as I thought it was going to be. I think I?ve managed it well,? said Jones, a 5-foot-11, 185-pound wide receiver and cornerback. ?It?s a pretty enjoyable process. It?s stressful at times, with calls and things like that. But it?s been reassuring, just to see my hard work paying off.?

Jones has picked up right where Virginia freshman Darius Jennings ? his former Gilman teammate ? left off as Baltimore?s most heavily recruited senior football prospect. Cyrus Jones won't slow down - ESPN

BALTIMORE -- If Cyrus Jones ever taps his helmet to come out of a game for a break, it might be the first time.

The 5-foot-10, 180-pound tailback/safety from Baltimore Gilman can't remember the last time he's done so. That was evident in a 51-27 thrashing of Chesapeake (Va.) Oscar Smith on Friday at the I-95 Classic at Morgan State University.

"I can't wait to get in my bed," an exhausted Jones said after the game. "Golly."

Jones, who is No. 34 in the ESPNU 150, played to the bitter end of a game that was never close. The Under Armour All-American's stat line underscored the playing time. Jones had 12 carries for 194 yards, three touchdown runs, a touchdown reception, 10 tackles and a blocked extra point.

By Wiltfong...talks about wanting to use his abilities off the field to help those less fortunate...a lot about his childhood and the influence his parents have had...says he is closest with the coaches at Maryland, UVA and Alabama...Penn State, Ohio State and Florida remain in the mix for an official and talks about how he wants to see Coach Fickell get a long-term deal at OSU because he has such a good relationship with him.

Might be time to move this one back to the main recruiting forum...at least until an official to OSU has been ruled out...

BALTIMORE -- Cyrus Jones is at home on the football field. Not so much behind the podium.

"When he's on the football field it's just him and the ball. He's there on his own," Cyrus' mother, Tomika Jones, said. "He's more nervous talking [in front of a crowd] because he's not a very talkative person. By nature, he's just a very quiet, cool, calm, collected kid."

However, duty called when Jones, who is No. 34 in the ESPNU 150, was officially introduced and handed his jersey for the Under Armour All-America Game. It was the first stop on the 80-stop tour for the American Family Insurance presents the Under Armour All-America Game selection tour.

Nerves? No question.

Yet when the four-star prospect from Baltimore Gilman stepped to the podium, he handled it as deftly as a toss sweep.

"I just want to take this time to thank everyone who helped me get to this point, to help me grow throughout my high school career," Jones said. "I want to thank my parents first of all. They're always pushing me. ? I want to thank all my coaches since I started playing football. They've definitely impacted my life.

"I don't know what I'd be doing if I wasn't playing football. It's the one thing I love to do."

Video by Kenney.....No preference on which side of the ball to play on in college. Talks about his interest in Auburn, Alabama, West Virginia, Ohio State, Florida, Virginia & Virginia Tech. Has been in contact with Coach Fickell & says they have a great relationship. Hopes to set up a visit to Ohio State after his season.

Sounds like distance will definitely play a factor....but get him on campus.
