crowd at the shoe, 9/10

scarletngrey11

All right, all right, all right.
how crazy do you think this crowd will be? is this crowd going to be more rowdy than a michigan game even? does this have the potential to go over the shoes 101,000 capacity? what do you guys think and/or know?

If the attendence at this game doesn't top 101, I will eat Mili's socks. I predict that it will set a new record, beating the 105+ from the 02 scUM game. I don't know about more rowdy that a scUM game (the students won't be back in class yet) but I am sure it will be damn loud.

There's still going to be a ton of students there. I think the full day of drinking before the game will also encourage some older fans to get louder than they normally would.

They sold out every student ticket for the Texas game, and from what I've heard they sold more student tickets for this game than are available for most conference games. I know of a lot of students who didn't get season tickets, but got tickets to only the Texas game. I would not be surprised if this game takes the record for highest attendance. We're playing Michigan at AA this year, so if the powers that be want to have a game that has the 'Shoe bursting at the seams in terms of capacity, this is the one.

Considering the fact that Texas is the other biggest alumni base in the nation, they finally could go all the way, are hyped up to #2 in the nation, and will be playing in the biggest OOC game in years...

Yes I'd say there will be more texans here. Michigan fans might be eager to get into The Game, but it is close enough for them to show up, try and scalp tickets, and go home not feeling bad about the day trek to Columbus. Texas fans are going to be coming in huge amounts on the 10th, all hoping to get tickets, many of them willing to pay anything (much more than a Michigan fan who can see the same matchup the next year at home, or in Columbus in 2 years).

I don't buy that They will limit the population count to be below a Michigan game. It is extremely helpful for recruiting to show that on top of playing in a revived Big Ten, an OSU recruit will play in top-rated OOC games (USC, Miami FL, VaTech, etc)... combined with the TV ratings this is sure to rake in, and I think they're going to ride this as much as possible.

I sure hope someone takes an overhead picture of the masses of people on gameday. Not only could this rewrite the books for inside the stadium, but I bet many columbus natives will say they've never seen it like that before outside of teh stadium. The combination of all day, ESPN gameday, Texas' original attributes, and the hype over the game... and I think its gonna be a sight to see. I don't expect the USC tailgating scene to be nearly as good as this one.

If this game doesn't set the all-time attendance mark for The Shoe, something is sadly wrong. This is arguably our biggest OOC game ever. With this being one of those rare night games, there's absolutely no excuse to not have almost 106,000 people in the stands.

I believe the 101K is the actual seating capacity. We're often around the 105K mark. I believe The Game in 2002 was a little over 105.5K. The difference between that number and the seating capacity is that it includes everyone inside the stadium, or so I've been told. That would be players, coaches, officials, ushers, stadium workers, media, etc.

As far as the atmosphere and loudness, I'd say it will be significanly louder than your typical scUM game. On top of the alcohol and late kick off, we're also going to have much nicer weather. For one thing, people aren't going to be bundled up in parkas and wearing gloves which muffle some of the noise.
