Couldn't agree more. The funniest thing is that his observations on everyday life are just as "on" as his sports talk. I swear almost any time I've disagreed with him, I'm turned to his side by the time his argument is given...and I'm a pretty stubborn person.

Personally, I'm not a big fan of Mike & Mike and I think Dan Patrick's show has gotten a little stale.

I rarely get to listen to Cowherd b/c of work but I really like him and agree with about everything he says.

Anybody catch Colin Cowherd's rant about ND and their "strong" schedule? It was great. He completely tore their schedule apart.
It's about time someone in the media said it.

Tim Brown was spewing the "toughest schedule in the country" rhetoric last week on ESPN, once again drawing a :roll2: reaction from me.

Did Cowherd mention anything about the one year in the mid-90s when they scheduled all 3 service academies? Or the year they played Vanderbilt AND Rutgers? Come to think of it, those may have been the years the Buckeyes stomped the shit out of them.

As I suspected:

Yeah I agree Cowherd is a pretty good show! The other day he was talk'n about how he's not a USC domer like they all say, but went on to say right after that and said "but how good is USC". He was talking about some back up QB that got drafted from USC.

I think a lot of people in the media are getting accused of USC bias right now. The problem is, USC has done everything they need to in order to get the praise. I've been accused of being a "closet USC fan" because I talk about how they aren't as overrated as everyone says. The fact is, people like to hear the media talk about their teams and they get jealous when someone else gets the press. I can recognize and admit when a team is on top and USC is THAT good right now...I'd love for Ohio State to get to that level. When they do, everyone will call the Buckeyes overrated and we will defend them to the end.

People that always complain about other teams being overrated have a bad case of envy. I love it when Colin puts them in their place.

I wouldn't say that USC is over rated. I think that the Pac-10 is a horrible conference for football which gives USC little to no competition. That means the chances of them being upset are slim to none, which makes it easier for USC to remain on top year after year because they don't have to go through the tough league schedule of the Big 10, SEC, ACC, or even the Big 12.

At the risk of throwing this thread even further off course...

USC destroyed Iowa, scUM and Oklahoma who went through the Big 10 and Big XII. When USC starts going through their conference undefeted and then blowing the big game (see Oklahoma), THEN you can make this argument. You can't control your conference schedule and league strength goes in cycles. What matters is that you win the games you are supposed to and step up in the championship game.

Comparing OSU vs. ND's schedule

OilerBuck said:
Cowherd is the best. No matter what your opinion of ESPN, their radio programming is off the charts. Mike & Mike, Colin and Patrick.

I wish Colin would've compared ND's schedule to OSU this year. Texas, Iowa, scUM...we've got a heckuva ride in for us and you won't hear me using it as an excuse, you have to beat the best to be the best.
Newbie here, so please be kind! I don't know why people are deriding Notre Dame's schedule. It's not the toughest schedule, but it is no walk in the park. I ranked the teams on Ohio State and Notre Dame's schedule and compared the two. I believe that Notre Dame has a slightly tougher schedule. This just my opinion and I am positive that many posters here will disagree.

Notre Dame Ohio State
1) USC > Texas
2) Tennessee > Iowa
3) at Michigan = at Michigan
4) at Purdue > at Minnesota
5) at Pittsburgh = at Penn State
6) Michigan State = Michigan State
7) Syracuse < Northwestern
8) BYU < Miami (OH)
9) at Stanford > Illinois
10) at Washington > at Indiana
11) Navy > San Diego State

OILER sure go ahead compare Mich, Iowa, Texas to USC, Tenn and Mich.

OK, CHUMPBOY, I will. Here's a comparison with last year's records and final rankings of those teams:

1. USC (13-0, #1) one loss and 4/5 poll positions better than Texas (11-1, #5/4)
2. Iowa (10-2, #8) one loss and 5/7 poll positions better than Tennessee (10-3, #13/15)
3. Michigan on both schedules

Looks like a wash to me. Argue schedules all you want, like you do EVERY FUCKING THREAD ABOUT NOTRE DAME, but they are not an excuse for failure.

Iowa was 10-2 last year. Tennessee was 10-3. Of all the preseason rankings I have found, I have found Iowa ahead in half and Tenn ahead in half. How does that equate to saying Tennessee is tougher than Iowa? If you HAD to give an advantage, I'd say you give it to the team with the better record. I also cannot figure out how you are saying that Purdue will be a better team than Minnesota next year...Purdue won't play a tough schedule, but I would take Minny head to head given all the offensive talent Purdue lost and with Maroney & Wheelright returning. Also, even if PSU and Pitt have equal talent, playing AT Happy Valley is a heck of a lot more difficult than playing at Pitt. The rest are inconsequential and I won't bother arguing.

Notre Dame Ohio State
1) USC > Texas
2) Tennessee = Iowa
3) at Michigan = at Michigan
4) at Purdue < at Minnesota
5) at Pittsburgh < at Penn State
6) Michigan State = Michigan State
7) Syracuse < Northwestern
8) BYU < Miami (OH)
9) at Stanford > Illinois
10) at Washington > at Indiana
11) Navy > San Diego State

Using this schedule, it's even 4-4 with three of ND's advantages coming at the very bottom.

I wasn't arguing that Ohio State's scheduling is vastly superior to the Domers. I'm arguing that the exact same schedule that ND fans blame for their mediocre records is similar to the schedule that we play...with very different results.

When Ohio State loses...our fans blame OUR team, we don't whine about how good the other ones are. We EXPECT to win every game...no wonder Notre Dame has fallen so far.

Very good point Oiler. Maybe thats the attitude with the players too. Perhaps they let the media and fans make them feel better about losses because the other teams were good. I dont know but its a possibility. For Charlie to be successful he'll have to get them expecting to win and not hoping to win.
