Serious question; just how definitive is the data showing the efficacy of the boosters?

I'm pretty healthy, work from home and don't have any high risk types in my immediate circle. The Moderna shot really put me down for a couple of days so I am seriously debating if I need the damn booster.

I think they're saying 70% vs Omicron... (now that I mention it, I think that just may be vaccination, of course, that's what the boosters are... I dunno)

The booster isn’t going to help you much against the new variant because you don’t need much help against the new variant. But old or future variants? I guess it can’t hurt.

This all depends on who and what you read. Here’s an article from NPR on new data. According to this, Delta is still the prevalent strain and boosters are encouraged.

That's pretty much what I thought. It isn't going to dick against the new one, the new one isn't that dangerous if you're vaccinated and the next one isn't here yet so I'm having a hard time justifying the risk/reward at the moment given the 2 days of my life lost to the first round of the shots.

Seems like Moderna people have had more issues than Pfizer just from people I know.

With both of us having elderly parents we need to assist, we didn’t see it as optional.

The branding has changed significantly since then. Since efficacy rates were either falsified (criminal) or simply “puffed” (the American way) by two companies that are now worth 10-20x more than they were prior to the pandemic, your vaccination status has little to no bearing on your parents health. In fact, quite the opposite. The false confidence has people engaging in activities in which they would not partake prior to an available vaccine, as anyone with eyes and a brain can see from skyrocketing positivity rates.

BTW, before you get all sideways on me, this is the exact reason I was vaccinated. So, it’s not a criticism, but rather an awakening.

70% against omicron infection, better than double vaxd for hospitalization, with a very loud disclaimer that they just don't know much at this point, which trivializes both numbers.

The only thing they do know is the vaccines fade with time.

And they just revised the omicron prevalence wildly, saying instead that Delta is still predominant.

Which gives a little hope that we're still fighting through the harsher Delta variant and the hopefully milder (but nitrous speed) omicron is still yet to fully saturate the numbers.

Go with what Josh said. Etc.

Especially the nitrous part.

No worries, parents are vaccinated/boosted too. It’s as much about us staying healthy to be able to assist them.

I'm not anti-vaccine but I am anti-stupid. The truth is they didn't and still don't know but they're in neck deep with this so they're trying to save face. This has become a clown show. In the video I posted in the pol section Fauci in his own words said it would take a few years to know for sure.

When 2 companies worth 300 billion and 100 billion tell you 95% effective, you get the fuck in line. :biggrin2:
