Confirmed: UM's Turner did not graduate, now at TSUN

Why would the Ohio Department of Education institute those pesky standards for high school student-athletes(?) that want to go th UM?

Isnt that discrimination? How dare they demand that 18 year old students have minimal skills in the area of reading-writing-math-science-social studies/citizenship? What are they thinking? To demand that anyone considering Flushigan be able to do those things is a plot against the Yaller and Blue!

[rant]

speaking as a social studies teacher, the OGTs are basically pretty terrible and not a very good indicator of how much a kid knows. they're also fairly difficult tests (albeit with a very low threshold for passing), and kids who simply don't do well on standardized tests for whatever reason can suffer because of it.

the english test this year had reading sections of sometimes FOUR pages long. most college kids wouldn't have the patience to read through all that crap, nevermind a high school kid with ADD or dyslexia.

it's always funny to see michigan lose a recruit, but i feel really bad for this kid who can't get a diploma with the rest of his class.

As rivals we often take a little pleasure in UM failures on the field, but I hate to see a kid fail off of it.

It's not done yet, but it appears he's on his last chance.

No U of M for J.T have to finish WHS first. - MassillonProud.com
He needed to graduate WHS to be able to go to college .
You need the grades to go to the next level.
J.T didn't graduate today.
As of 3 weeks ago he didn't have the grades and I am not sure he had time
to bring them up.
I was hoping he got it together but it appears he hasn't.
I was just told that he has yet to pass his OGT's...

He may have been given an Individual Education Plan (IEP) which essentially removes the requirement of passing the OGT...
Being on an IEP does not mean the OGT requirements are lifted. A student may get more time, have the test read to them, etc. but would most likely need to pass the tests to graduate. Students with severe disibalities may take an alternate assessment, but a district can only offer that to roughly 1% of it's IEP students and I do not think this student would be eligible(?
You gotta be chittin' me. Please not another .........................

Hopefully there has been an oversight, miscalculation, error, mistake, or other explainable snafu.

Please JT, finish this up, and get to UM !!!
Next test for OGT is June...He'll be alright. JT didn't play basketball because of a communication gap between the coach and him that was never resolved. All is not over. As far as going to Ashland: an education is an education not matter where you go.
For most of these kids, there really is no acceptable reason for them not to pass these tests by the time they graduate. They have 3 Years, plus summers to get this done. Keep in mind, they don't even have to score high, all they have to do is pass, which according to many present and pass students that I spoken with about this, is no great feat to accomplish.

The lack of effort shown in completing this task speaks to me of their overall lack of focus on their education, imho. All I'm saying is if it is this difficult to pass these general tests, repeatedly, how hard do you think it will be to maintain passing grades at the next level? Good luck, it will be needed.

Leaders and the best. I will bet anyone he will become a General Studies major. You know, the major at UM where most of the students are football players. No, it's not a joke major created to keep football players eligible.

If he doesn't pass it in June, the OGT doesn't offer another test until September, correct?

If I remember correctly also, he likely had 4 years to pass the section. I graduated in '05 and as freshmen in HS we were given the test and we had until we were seniors to pass it, that's the weird part about this.....he had all those times to pass the science section and he hasn't? If he doesn't pass in June it would appear he can't enroll for fall semester at UM.

Anyone who has taken the OGT knows that it's easier than a pregnancy test. scUMmers claim it can't be because he has a 3.4 gpa. What is worse, failing the OGT of knowing that someone failing the OGT is able to maintain an A-B average? Complete crap!

It's the little things like this that will continue to derail Rich Rod and Michigan's return to prominance. They need these super blue chippers in the the worst way to make that happen. Anybody that has watched Michigans secondary or even their linebackers (or the whole team for that matter) over the last several years has seen that those star athletes like Turner have been missing for the most part. In a way it kinda sucks because over time Michigan's ineptitude will only cheapen our rivalry and the success of the Big Ten.

I want the worst for Michigan like everybody else but this shit is getting out of hand. If Michigan declines even further under Rich Rod, it may be several years before they are even close to getting back. Boy, Lloyd Carr really let things slip.

How many chances does he end up getting if he did fail the OGT? Has he written it more than once?
We were told yesterday that this is his last chance to pass it in time for fall season.

It just boiled over publically because of his absence from massillon graduation.

and honestly....there's only a little bit wrong with doing this. my ridicule (and possibly yours) comes from the fans who claim that their noble institution doesn't do that? Shit....didn't they sever all ties with Harbaugh for just stating it out loud?
