Happily, located my 15+year-old tape of The Late Shift. It's freakish how many echoes there are of the current situation--agreements promising the show year/s in advance in order to keep the talent on NBC's leash; behind-the-scenes skullduggery to pry the current Late Night host out of his chair; NBC execs in a panic because their ratings have tanked w/blame being passed around like jewelry at a Godfather's dinner; grievances being aired in the media; yada yada yada.

What's that famous cautionary axiom? Those who do not learn from the past are condemned to repeat it.

He's even said that the Tonight Show Band is playing Zeppelin, the Stones & Springsteen for intro/outro music because the royalties cost NBC more.
