I have rebooted since I started having the problem but never did a complete shutdown. I think I will start doing that when I am finished for the day. I always did that, do the a complete shutdown, when I was working and never had any problems. Don't know why I discontinued doing that. Maybe lazy. Anyhow, I will let you know what happens after a night or two of shutdowns. Thanks for all of your help and suggestions. Much appreciated.

To be honest I am a believer in shutting them down at night/when you're done with it for the day. Have you had it running for many days straight? Cause if you havent rebooted, sometimes that can help it with settings like that as well. I would assume you have tried that though. Mine gets turned on in the morning, then shut down at night. Always believed that is better for them. Shutting them on and off too much is bad for the power supply, but leaving them on too much can cause problems with heat as well.
Meant to get back to you regarding my problem. I did a complete shutdown a couple nights ago and during the shutdown noticed a message about closing system.exe. Also, the Windows shutdown seemed to take a long period of time but after bringing it up the next morning that evening the HD turned off at the time I had set. Looks like I will be doing complete shutdowns a little more often.

Macafee??

Norton??

You deserve a flogging....

Make sure you don't have an automatic daily scan setup.
It runs in the background taking up huge resources... and does so every 24 hours. Usually depending in your hard drive size, how much data you have and your equipment - each scan can easily take a few hours.

I have been meaning to ask this of you since I saw the post but are you saying that people should not have Norton or McAfee on their PCs. I have Norton on my PC at home and while I know it makes my PC run a little bit slower I would like to know what type of software you would suggest if someone would use McAfee or Norton for antivirus protection.

I typcially don't run an AV myself, but I recommend AVG for most of the folkes I know.

Ghost is the only thing good under the Norton name.

AVG seems to be taking more system resources to run than Firefox - just as a resident program, not during a scan. That just doesn't seem right. Same for you?

More and more lately, I feel these two are best suited for computer troubleshooting when used together.

Depends; as a resident program most AV's easily take more resources than say... your active browser.

Firefox I really don't use, bleeds far too much.

That said, no I'm not experiencing that on this paticular machine.

Rather than start a whole new thread regarding my minor problem, I thought I would use this one. Today I tried to play a youtube video and got know what sound whatsoever. I know that my sound is working but I cannot understand why I can not get any sound when I try to play a youtube video. Thanks for any suggestions.
