Mook went home , now it's my problem. we know where the start key is but how do you open it without using the mouse ?

your serious? In that case, hit the upwards arrow key a couple times to run then hit enter....

Question, when you refer to computer's as "stations" I assume you have/had some experience with them, or is this totally off base?

We have 19 computers so the use of the word station was just to differentiate.

When I hit the up button the only thing that happened was the page would scroll.
We did find out what the problem was though. The keyboard wasn't initializing so of course the mouse wouldn't. The prongs on the keyboard plug were pushed in. A different keyboard worked great.
Thanks for all the Help, Greenies for all who helped.

Today my PC locked up by me and before I could even shut it down I received a system message saying that my virtual memory was low and that Windows was going to update my page file quota. I am not sure that even happened because my PC was pretty well locked. I guess my question is how can you free up some virtual memory without getting too sophisticated for this little pea brain.

I guess another question that I have for you guys is when do you determine when you need a new PC. I cannot use a laptop and I realize that money is an issue for everyone but I have no idea if this PC is starting to wind down or not and do not want to spend the money just to spend it. I guess my question were also boil down to what do you guys think is sufficient hardware. I can always compare my specs to what you guys think. The one piece of software that needs to be figured into any equation is my Dragon Naturally Speaking software. Thanks for your help.

Is this virtual memory thing happening regularly, or was it a one time thing? There is a way to allocate more virtual memory, but every so often PCs will get low on virtual memory. Certain programs can hog too many resources, others can not shut down properly, etc. If it isn't something that happens more than once in a blue moon, it isn't a big problem.

As for desktops, you can get a very nice new desktop for about $400 these days.

Muck answered your VM problem.

Whatever you do with a new PC, get a least 3GB of memory. Anything else will be outdated when you take it out of the box.
It was only a one-time thing this week and probably hasn't happened for a while. However, program seemed to be running a little slower. I will run the program suggested by Much and will be in contact when I decide to go for a new PC. Just installing the software and all of my documents holds me back from doing that.

Thanks to all of you for your quick responses.

My Computer/Control Panel/System/Perfomance Tab Adjust your virutal memory to a level that works with your pc.

Honestly,if my pc starts sluggin..I'll reformat it and go from there. If it doesn't run properly with whatever is a need to have on my pc,then I buy something else. Cheap computers can run basic processes nowadays easily. The only thing most of them do not come with is a nice video card. Not a need unless your gaming or doing something with movies/tv.

However,it's a wise move to get a mobo, that's super upgradable. Not usually something u'll get unless it's custom, but it will slow down the whole "outdated" process dramatically,if that is a big concern.

I downloaded the Free RAM Optimizer from this site. I have it running in my tray. Is there anything I should specifically do with it or watch out for:huh:

In my Control Panel, I have my system set for Windows to let Windows to what is best for my PC. Thanks to anyone who is familiar with this Optimizer.

As far as I know, there really isn't anything to configure. It just helps with the VM problem. Do you know how much RAM you are running? If you list the specs it would be easier to diagnose if an upgrade would be helpful. If you go to the control panel>performance and maintenance>system it will tell you what processor and RAM you have.

Pentium(R) 4 CPU, 3.00 GHz
2.99 GHz, 0.99 Gb of RAM

That is what I get from my Control Panel. I would like to know your thoughts regarding that or if you need further information about my system please let me know. Also, please don't tell Clarity that I have a Dell:lol:

Did you mistype the amount of ram? It's also listed by mb/gb not ghz. That's processor speed.
