Marshall didn't make the trip to Philly. Gehrig started in his place, and actually did OK, even though, IIRC, the Union's goal was due to a miscom between him and James.

Having Francis back at left back, and O'Rourke back a DM has been nice. I actually like Ekpo much better, offensively, now that he is in the center, and not on the wing. I'm usually pretty annoyed by Mendoza's work ethic, but I think that he seems fairly annoyed with the lack of class around him, and he's decided to just show up and collect a check. A combo of Heinemann and Renteria could be good, but Heinemann has almost no actual skill, IMO, except for the occasional knock down header.

If anything Gherig just needs more reps out there. I like what he brings, he's just not getting enough PT.

Eddie Gaven was unsure how many minutes he could give the Crew on Sunday vs. DC. United. A bruised right leg had kept him out since Aug. 5.

Great to see Gaven back in the lineup. Hopefully, this can right the ship. New England has been eliminated from playoff contention, and Chicago probably will be by the time we play them, so, maybe, we can get six more points out of the season. That will put us at 50 points for the season, with a chance at finishing 4th overall. If we can finish 4th, and even if we don't make the finals, we can still hope that Seattle wins the US Open Cup and two of the top 3 teams make the MLS Cup final. All of that happening still gets us into CONCACAF next season, and gives our young guys more game experience.

Crew spanks the Revs 3-0 IN New England. HUGE win, IMO. Andres Mendoza with TWO spectacular goals, Dilly Duka with his first career MLS goal getting the other. The Columbus Crew are PLAYOFF BOUND!!!! Competing next week in Chicago for the Eastern Conference crown. Mendoza also with an opportunity at the Golden Boot!

The Crew pissed away a first round bye Saturday night, losing to the Fire 3-2. Now we have to play one game in Colorado for the right to play either LA Galaxy or Sporting KC. If New York can beat FC Dallas on Wednesday, then I'll still have some hope for a run to the final, because beating Colorado will put us in the Eastern Conference playoffs. If FC Dallas wins, then the winner of Colorado v. Columbus have to go through the Western Conference, and we're simply not good enough to make the final by going through LA, and Seattle or RSL.

Agreed. Although, the Crew scored two pretty spectacular goals against Chicago... Renteria's bicycle was SIIICK.

The goals were nice, but the goals against have me worried. It seems as though the league has figured out Julius James. I loved his play early on, but he has not been the same since his yellow card suspension. Two of the three goals were, at least partially, on him Saturday night. I'm hoping that this is just him having a bad run, and not that this is what he is, and now the league knows how to expoit him.

I just hope we don't have to face Seattle. If we do in the semifinals, it'll be "see you guys next year".

I'm not holding my breath on New York winning a shocker against Dallas. Gotta take 'em one at a time. Colorado's first... and I know our guys want some revenge for last year.

It all starts and ends with why Warzycha insists on starting Kevin Burns... He's terrible. The bright spot of the team is the fact that 2 of our midfielders have scored 3 goals in the last 3 games (Gaven against DC, Duka against NE, and Duka against Chicago), plus Mendoza has looked better of late. Everything lies on whether or not Tchani will be ready to go. Columbus desperately needs him right now. He could be the x factor to getting Columbus' counter-attack going.

So why did Warzycha get a contract extension? That's three consecutive years of one and done soccer....

WTF kind of formation was he running? 4-5-1 with Mendoza at the top?! Are you fucking kidding me? Columbus deserved to lose last night. I just hope for the organizations sake they drop Mendoza. He gave us 13 goals (something like 7 of them were PK's), but it's time to part ways. He can't position himself to NOT be offsides and it cripples the teams flow when every time the Crew possess the ball it's stopped by yet another fucking offsides. Get someone out there who can adjust to the gameplay around him. Mendoza is stubborn and that's not what the Crew need. Also let Robbie Rogers see the door as well. He's going to want too much money to stick around anyways. We can find so many better CAM's over Rogers.

One thing you have to think about that just popped in my head is, why did he get an extension in the middle of the season and why didn't the Crew wait until after the season.

It's not like he (Warzycha) has many pressing or rival offers on his table and I doubt giving him the extension in the middle of the season saved the club a major amount of money.

This has nothing to do with the extension, but after the Sept. 1 contract the record was 2-6-1 (5-3-1 in nine games prior to 9/1). That's great.

He's got to go. I don't like anything he brings to the table. His two best strikers are rarely ever on the field at the same time (Heinemann and Renteria). They just have the chemistry that this team was so desperate for. I still can't understand to this day why they didn't play side by side more this season.
