Blue Jackets head to St. Louis for last preseason road game

Columbus will take on the Blues tonight before the exhibition finale Saturday at home

The Blue Jackets enter the final weekend of the preseason with a plan in place.

Tonight in St. Louis, the team has called up seven forwards and a defenseman from AHL Cleveland with the hopes of getting one more look at a few players, but the result is it will be a largely young lineup in place tonight when Columbus takes on the Blues.

Tyler Sikura, Josh Dunne, Brendan Gaunce, Tyler Angle, Carson Meyer, Tristan Mullin, Justin Scott and Gavin Bayreuther all have been summoned from Cleveland for the game, and up front they will join Kevin Stenlund, Gregory Hofmann, Justin Danforth, Liam Foudy and Emil Bemstrom from the NHL roster to take on the Blues.

Meanwhile, on the defensive side, Andrew Peeke, Scott Harrington, Mikko Lehtonen, Dean Kukan and Gabriel Carlsson have been battling to carve out their roles on the CBJ blue line, and all will get a chance to show their stuff against the Blues.

The game will be broadcast on BlueJackets.com and 97.1 The Fan and will conclude the road portion of the CBJ exhibition schedule. Columbus likely will field an NHL-caliber roster in the final tuneup, scheduled for Saturday night at 7 p.m. against Pittsburgh in Nationwide Arena.

Just sayin': Tonight it is pretty much the Cleveland Monsters vs the St Louis Blues.

Domi's done everything he can to be ready for rapid return

Blue Jackets forward remains optimistic he can play opening night -- or close to it

When Max Domi went under the knife June 3, there were no expectations that the Blue Jackets forward would be able to return for the start of the 2021-22 season.

Then again, no one expected quite how much Domi would dedicate himself to getting back, either.

All hockey players want to come back from injury as quickly as possible. But Domi took it to what appears to be an extreme, a seven-day-a-week grind that included as many different ways as possible to get his injured right shoulder back into playing shape.

"I think we've been progressing well," Domi said Thursday after taking part in a full-team, full-contact practice for the first time. "I was lucky to have a great rehab team back home, which was awesome. Every single day this summer was geared toward trying to get healthy and thinking outside the box, getting lots of extra treatment here and there and doing some outside-the-box workouts.

"It was fun. I enjoyed it. There were some days that were tougher than others for sure, but I think it pays off in the end."

And now, after just over four months of hard work, it's at least within the realm of possibility Domi will be able to be in the Blue Jackets' lineup when the team opens the season next Thursday night against Arizona in Nationwide Arena.

They do. Arizona is probably going to be slap fighting with Buffalo and Anaheim for the worst record in the league this year, but the Jackets are at least appearing to be quite a bit better than the Coyotes. Buffalo is also kicking the Habs’ ass right now, so who the hell knows…

Arizona could easily be the worst team in the NHL this season. Morale has to be low; they don't even have an arena to play in next year.

Bjorkstrand led the way with 4 points.

The Coyotes goalie had a save % of .692....
