Columbus Blue Jackets (Official Thread)

I also took in the Bruins game and wow, that was intense. Very very exciting game. Only the 3rd game I've attended with the Jackets (though I went to many many Chill games back in the day:biggrin:). I love going to hockey games though, they never seem to disappoint.

I was glad to see them come out on top and it looks like this team is piecing together very well. There was some great passing, especially throughout the entire 3rd period. The Jackets dominated the game except for when they spent the whole 2nd period having to kill off penalties :roll2:. Luckily we got some calls back in the 3rd and put it away with some great play. I'd love to see the Jackets in the playoffs and I think they'll get there.

though in hockey its a lot harder to climb out of the standing with a points system. lets hope all goes well.

[

If they can somehow get anywhere near 90 points, they have a pretty good shot.

there are 46 games left for them going into today....they have 31 points.

If they can win 30 of those games, and go 30-16 or some combination thereof, they'll be in....and 30-16 is a crazy rate too. If they can win about 25 games or so, they'll probably be the 7th or 8th seed, given that the NorthWest Division will beat the crap out of itself. All 5 teams in that division are within a point of the division lead.

Here's a breakdown for everyone given the current trend for the Jackets....

They have 46 games left. That is 4 "10s" and 6 other games. In their previous ten games, they are 6-3-1. Put that rate into those 4 "10s" and you get:

24-12-4 or 52 points in 40 games. The way they are playing, it's certainly feasible that they could accomplish this rate.

After those first 40 games, they have 6 more.

Give the rate, it breaks down to 3-2-1 roughly. That's another 7 points.

That brings their possible total to 31+52+7=90 and a record of 41-33-8. I can't imagine that the entire Western Conference will have a playoff cutoff above 90 points this year. I think last year was an aberration when Edmonton was the 8th seed with 95 points. Maybe I'm wrong, but we will see.

If Columbus continues to improve and if they can avoid a major injury, I think they have a pretty good shot to get there. They might want to get another good defenseman, but I wouldn't mortgage the future for one.

Just my .02....

Here's a pretty short schedule breakdown:

10 games vs. teams with worse records: (5 vs. STL, 2 PHX, 3 LA). Anything fewer than 2 points in each game against these teams is disappointing now. Just can't afford to miss out on points against bad teams. I'd say aim for 16 points out of these games. 8-2 or 7-1-2 would be just dandy.

14 games vs. teams with 37-40 points: (5 vs. CHI, 2 CGY, 1 COL, 2 EDM, 2 MIN, 1 VAN, 1 NYR). The 7th poisition right now is at 38 points. These are the teams between the CBJ and the playoffs. If they struggle in these games, there is no chance. Need about 20 in these games just to have a shot. 10-4, 8-2-4, something like that.

22 games vs. teams with 48+ points: (3 vs. DAL, 5 DET, 1 MTL, 3 SJ, 5 NSH, 1 BUF, 4 ANHM). Working with the 16 and 20 point figures, gotta get 23 in the games just to hit 90 on the nose. 12-10, 10-9-3, etc. The Jackets are starting to prove that they can play with these teams and they're going to have to win their share just to sniff the playoffs.

And in other news, I planned on watching tonight's game from home but had to reschedule when I fell into not 2, not 4, but 6(!!!) lower-bowl tickets to tonight's game. My employer has 4 season tickets, none of which are claimed for the evening and my wife's employer can't use his pair tonight either. It's good to be the king. :pimp:

90 might be likely, but most are figuring 95 pts.

whatever it takes who knows.

from what i have heard a group is approaching it as eight seven games series (playoff style) [obviously one of the series has already been playes. one is under way.]

bk thats sweet, but since you think im rick nash ive got a much better deal. my co pays me to watch the games, and then i half ass about 8 mins a night and bust my ass 8 more and get a nice fat check for doing that every two weeks :wink2:

Although I can't remember ever accusing you of being Nick Rash. Oops. that was a typo. Maybe.

Hmmm....right now, #7 and #8 (EDM, CGY) have 38 points through 35 games, putting them on pace for 89 points. The Jackets just have to hope that the middle-tier teams keep beating-up on each other and that nobody goes on a long hot-streak.

Hoping for a good one tonight. Been outscored 8-1 over the last 5 periods against the Wings. Time to get back on track.

COMMENTARY
Rivalry, though still slanted, not a bad thing
Friday, December 29, 2006

BOB HUNTER

A lot of people seem to think this so-called Red Wings-Blue Jackets rivalry is based on some longstanding animosity between Michigan and Ohio, one that likely stemmed from the day Ohio stole the strip of land that now holds Toledo from its northern neighbor.
