Columbus Blue Jackets (Official Thread)

I think Wisniewski, Calvert and maybe Anisimov will be traded.

Clearly this team needs another skill player or two...after the Johanssen line there isn't enough skill.

The CBJ would have been a GREAT mid-90s team though back when you could score 2 goals a night and win regularly.

Maple Leafs trade David Clarkson to Blue Jackets for Nathan Horton

This could end up being a miraculous contract dump for the Maple Leafs, but if Horton somehow manages to return from the injury, they have a veteran top-six forward with a history of production and a Stanley Cup on his resume. It's a low-risk, high-reward type deal, especially while getting rid of Clarkson's albatross contract. That said, the likelihood of Horton coming back from his injury appears low.

He carries a $5.25 million cap hit and is under contract through the 2019-20 season.

Well, Horton will probably never play again, so that's the good news. The bad news is that David Clarkson was never worth the money to begin with & he's been abysmal since leaving NJ, although the entire Leafs organization has been so the past two seasons too. Clarkson bringing character & leadership ? Now that's laughable. The guy is a complete hot head, but hey, he won't back down from a fight or deliver a cheap shot or two if required. At least you get a guy who is going to play & isn't a wuss, but he is a repeat offender so suspensions are inevitable.

Not much to say about the team this year now. Injuries, injuries, injuries.

I posted the following in the Amazon thread- and I promise not to bombard people anymore- but for anyone that still checks in here, this may be of some interest...Proud/happy for my uncle to get the chance to write a book about a topic he loved and was lucky enough to follow for some time.

Absolutely shameless plug ahead-

My uncle's book about the Columbus Chill was just released this week. He covered the the team for the Dispatch and authored the book with David Paitson, the President and GM of the team. There is also a foreword from Bob Hunter. I got an advanced copy about a month ago and for anyone that spent time growing up at the Fairgrounds with the Chill, this is definitely a walk down memory lane and a really great story that leads in to the formation of the NHL Blue Jackets.

Highly recommended for Columbus residents, hockey fans, or sports readers in general. Use the BP referral link and maybe buy a couple copies. 8D

It figures that right as they are staring official elimination in the face that they go on an 8-2 in their last 10 streak...

It's really too bad they couldn't have won 3 or 4 more games back in January or February. If they were sitting at 80 points instead of 72 I'd say they would have a decent chance given their number of wins in that scenario (which would be 38, or 1 more than Ottawa and 2 more than Boston). The loser's point is the only real reason teams like Ottawa (11), Boston (12) and Florida (14) are as far ahead as they are...

Referencing your prior post, it is almost like they did not think that January and February counted in the standings.

Yeah - if they are just .500 in either November (10 game losing streak), January (5 and 4 game losing streak) Or February (6 and 3 game streak) they'd be in the playoffs....The East started out hot but everyone but the NYR have cooled off....

Mathematically eliminated, but damn this is has been a fun couple weeks.

On a side note, I can't believe Dainius Zubrus is still in the NHL. I remember playing with the FLyers on NHL 96 (97?) and he was on there. Shit, he's old.

He was a rookie in 96-97...he's actually only 36 years old or something like that....

sucks that they had those long droughts without any points at all. Even just getting a few loser points would have kept them afloat. This is the hottest team in the NHL right now and they aren't just beating up on the Edmonton's of the NHL.

Yeah, but I just think about some of the guys that were on that team with him that are long gone....Lindros, Leclair, Therien.....Fuck, I was a sophomore in high school. That was a long damn time ago!

No kidding.....just looking at the standings, they have 6 (maybe 7 now) more wins than Philly, but are a point behind them because the Flyers have 17 OTL to 4 for the CBJ.
