Columbus Blue Jackets (Official Thread)

NBCSN continues its coverage of the 2013-14 campaign tonight when the Columbus Blue Jackets host the Detroit Red Wings at Nationwide Arena at 7:30 p.m. ET. In addition to NBCSN, you can also watch the game online. Following are some game notes, as compiled by the NHL on NBC research team:

• No team has defeated the Blue Jackets at the Nationwide Arena more often in the regular season than the Red Wings (23-11-5 all-time record). Additionally, in the Jackets’ only postseason series (2009 Western Conference Quarterfinals), the Wings won both games (Games 3 and 4) in Columbus.

• The reigning Vezina Trophy winner, Blue Jackets goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky, has been a workhorse since returning from a groin injury that sidelined him from Dec. 6-Jan. 4, appearing in 27 of 29 games. The Russian Olympian has made 18 straight starts (10-6-2, 2.20 GAA, .934 save%, one shutout during that span), the most by any goaltender in the NHL this season.

• Red Wings center David Legwand carries a six-game point streak vs. Columbus into tonight’s game. Legwand is the leader among active Red Wings with 49 points in 63 games vs. the Blue Jackets (21- 28=49). All but one of those points (an assist) came while Legwand was a member of the Nashville Predators, prior to his March 5 deadline-day trade to Detroit. Legwand has seven points (two goals) in helping the Red Wings to a 5-3-2 record since the deal.

• The Blue Jackets have gone nine games and 36 power-play opportunities since center Artem Anisimovscored with a Columbus man advantage on Mar. 4, the day before the NHL trade deadline. They are closing in on a franchise record for power-play futility (42 consecutive failed chances, Mar. 9- Apr. 1, 2011). Their breakthrough could come tonight, as the Red Wings have allowed a power-play goal in five straight games.

• With a regulation victory, Columbus would tie Detroit with 80 points, with the Blue Jackets holding the tiebreaker over their fellow Eastern Conference newcomers (more non-shootout wins). Since entering the league as an expansion team in the 2000-01 season, Columbus has never finished above Detroit in the final regular-season standings.

Meyer: "I am pulling for the Blue Jackets in their playoff drive", Here's proof.

I'm happy again after last night.
I'm not conceding the play offs just yet. The Pens are banged up in a big way so a win on Friday isn't out of the question. Then it's at Carolina on Saturday. Those are winnable games. Then Colorado comes to town. Get them at home so you never know. Need the Wings, Leafs and Caps to lose a couple in that span however.

I really enjoyed watching the game last night because the announcers were so much better than listening to the color analyst of the CBJ(Davidge). I do not know why but he sort of grates me. A stat that really surprised me was that the CBJ had the worst goal differential in the third period of any NHL team. The backup goalie really performed well last night. BOB must have really been sick:no:

The CBJ don't - that's the Red Wings. After last night they've had 59 goals scored on them in the 3rd vs. 37 scored.

Pens are not only banged up, they've been playing average for their last 20 or so games. The Jackets have a better record in that span if I'm not mistaken. That being said, Nationwide Arena is going to be pro-Penguins again based on the fact that tickets were astronomical and tickets on the side the Pens shoot twice were more than the side the Jackets shoot twice. Pens fans drove ticket prices through the roof. I had to pay double what I normally do for CBJ games (including the Detroit game I attended last night). A Pens win will clinch the playoffs too.

The Jackets had better bring their a-game. This is the biggest stretch of games in franchise history.

In a move that already-nervous Blue Jackets fans are hoping is merely precautionary, Columbus has recalled goalie Mike McKenna from AHL Springfield under emergency conditions. The call-up comes after the team’s starter, Sergei Bobrovsky, was forced to leave Tuesday’s 4-2 victory over Detroit after one period, reportedly due to the flu. If Bobrovsky is unable to play Friday at home to Pittsburgh, Curtis McElhinney should get the starting nod.

This pisses me off more than anything.
