Columbus Blue Jackets (Official Thread)

As long as it's the start of a streak and not a fluke.

Great win for the Jackets. Didn't get to watch - how was Wiz defensively? Did he make a difference on both ends?
Yes, in that game he really did.

How about his shot tonight that hit the post...WOW! He definitely lifts up the team.

Tonight I was a little disappointed in Nash, sometimes as a forward you need to play a little defense and put a body on somebody to prevent an easy goal, something he didn't do which really hurt us late.

I forgot which goal it was, maybe the first, but Mason came out of the goal way too early on a 3 on 2, when passing lanes were open. His best bet would have been to hold his position, entice that man with the puck to take a shot, and hope to make the save. Instead he comes up, even though an obvious passing lane was there, and then the winger had the angle to see the net and made an easy shot that Mason had no chance at saving. He screwed himself. Sometimes there will be 3 on 2 breakaways, it happens to every team, but he needed to make a better decision here.

After this goal though Mason seemed to settle down, and made a lot of great saves I felt. I feel though like sometimes our forwards caused more scoring chances for Buffalo today than our defensemen. Offensively, another great effort. We had a lot of scoring chances. It just seems to me like opposing goalies have just been saving their best for us. Maybe Mason hasn't been as bad this year as I've alluded to, but in ever loss the other goalie has outplayed him by far.

If you think our defense has made it tough for Mason this year, he usually has always had the easier game of the two goalies on the ice, and today was no exception.

I love how this team fires a lot of shots, attacks the puck, and hits the hell out of opposing teams. We are much better than our record, and in all honesty, this was a very good game. Buffalo is a great team, and I thought even getting a point was going to be a tall task in this game, but we had our chances. The big difference in this team right now is PPs and PKs. If both those units can figure it out, this is a much different team. I think we need to shake up these units big time. Getting completely healthy may help as well.

These next five are going to be extremely tough. Three of them are at home though, so if we could somehow pull off a 2-2-1 record in our next five, then I'll be happy, because after that we have a very soft schedule for the next month and a half. We need to hope to somehow get to 15 wins before the halfway point with some OTLs then maybe we have a chance to get back into things. Let's hope we see more of what happened Tuesday and less of what has happened before that.

Not every goal is Mason's fault. Defense was just standing around again.

True, but you'd think one of these pucks would hit Mason at some point.

Maybe he's just unlucky.

I have noticed he's a lazy goalie - once he's down he doesn't move laterally at all no matter where he actually is in the crease or where the puck happens to be. He doesn't have to be Hasek, but emulating Roberto Luongo probably isn't the best idea either.

He's bad, but the defense seems to be getting a pass for some reason, and they've probably played worse (somehow). I've never seen a group stand around so fucking much.

I have. Pretty much any defensive pairing the Wings have had in the past 10 years without Nick Lidstrom on the ice

So who is the top prospect coming out in June?

Any real difference makers?

In looking over some prospects it looks like a draft that is heavy with D men which is good for Columbus. The bad part is that the top overall prospect, at least right now, looks to be a Russian forward Nail Yakupov.

Ryan Murray is the name I'm looking at as the top D man in the 2012 NHL draft. This is the guy we're playing for Blue Jackets fans!!!! Embrace the suck!!!!!

He doesn't play in Russia though, and he'll be the #1 pick without a doubt. Would've went #1 last year. He'll be the pick no matter who wins the lottery.

Deep draft for sure though.

Arniel, Russell and Brassard may all be out of Columbus soon.. just read that the Jackets are taking phone calls for Brassard and Russell. Russell won't get much in return, but Brassard could probably get something decent.
