Columbus Blue Jackets (Official Thread)

I'm also glad to see that Don Boyd was given his walking papers.

The Dispatch has an article about the 2003 draft outlining what a gold mine it was for players and how the Blue Jackets competely whiffed. In addition to the other drafts that they competely whiffed on. I know that Howson wasn't in charge then, but Boyd was. Agan, it's long overdue for him to be shown the door.

Dispatch article.

It's all on Howson now.

Columbus Blue Jackets

cls.gif

Sven Baertschi, LW, Portland (WHL)
A creative forward who projects to be the difference-maker that Nikita Filatov was supposed to be. It seems that the Blue Jackets land offensive players in this range (Derick Brassard, Jakub Voracek, Filatov) who tease with talent but fall short of full delivery. Down the line, Baertschi would get to play with Portland teammate Ryan Johansen, Columbus' shrewd first-rounder last June.

I like the move. To hell with picks when you can't develop them worth a shit. 35-45 goal player here, that's going to help a ton. Curious if he'll play with Nash or if the Jackets will have a 1a and 1b setup. I think Huselius - Carter - Nash could be a very good line.

Best of luck to Jake, he should fit in perfectly with the Flyers' system. I do hope he loses lots of games to Pittsburgh and never wins a Cup, however. :p

Kind of wish the Jackets would've been able to get Richards instead of Carter, since they were both dealt for some reason.. but I can't complain. Pens no longer have to see either of them very much.

This. This team is born for free agency, they have been running it like that every since they started. I like Jake, but Carter is a difference maker...we now have 2 of those, for possibly the first time ever.

Free agents will look at this situation and realize the team is doing what it can to win now. Hopefully Joni Pitkanen signs in Columbus. I'm not counting on it, but a legitimate winger and a legitimate center are no in Columbus for a looong time. That won't hurt, at all.

I guess Philly isn't done making deals either. Maybe Coburn or Carle will suit up in Columbus next year too. I'd prefer Coburn because Carle played beside Pronger.. there is no Pronger in Columbus.

I watch the Jackets but that's all the hockey I ever watch..so I assume by the high praise of Carter he's pretty good. I do know a goalie and defenseman are much needed. Anyone know if Moore or I think it's Johanson will be in Columbus soon?

Johansen is an interesting scenario because he can't play in the AHL. It's either juniors or the NHL. He's done everything he can in juniors. He dominates there. But I don't think the organization wants to rush him.. would like to hear jo4h comment on Johansen. The Jackets have about 340 centers on the roster right now, so I'm curious to see if they're trying to move one for defensive help.

I don't know how close Moore is. Probably another season out of the NHL if I had to guess.

Carter is decent enough defensively and a sniper. He's big too. 30 goals/30 assists is a reasonable expectation. He scored 46 goals/38 assists in 08/09. He's going to be a huge piece of the future.. for 11 more years. :p

Carter is signed through the 2021-22 season at $5.27 million per season.

Im sorry, but good luck. WOW 10 years?????

Im really not even trying to be a dick. But WOOOOOW

He's 26. There's really no way to spin the Jackets getting Jeff Carter as a negative, but I'm glad you tried I guess.

here is a good read on Johansen

as far as Moore this is what was said about him in the dispatch online chat last week...

[Go Jackets!] Do you expect John Moore to be with the Jackets next year?

[Portzline] I don't, no. I suspect he'll spend at least the start of the season in the AHL, but he'll get a chance in training camp to earn a spot. Last year, in his pro debut, Moore was only so-so. Knowing the kid, he's having a heck of a summer and will show up with a great attitude. That's how he's wired. But the club has tried to become much more patient with players, and Moore's play last season (he was minus-20 something) suggests he needs more seasoning.
