Columbus Blue Jackets (Official Thread)

The CBJ have at most 5 years to put something akin to a professional franchise together.

The first thing I'd do is get rid of the stupid minor-league baseball type gimmicks (The Cannon), bring back the Pepsi skanks in the skimpy clothes, and figure out a way to get the 19-35 demographic out in force.

I would think a better product on the ice would be a good start as well. That and a good brawler maybe. Two of the most popular Jackets ever were Grand-Pierre and Shelley, after all.

That would help too, but the numbers show that even with a crappy product last year they still averaged over 15,000 per home game. Those numbers might be a little juiced, but the games we went too the crowd was pretty good each time.

We'll see what happens this year. The fanbase is saying "prove it" to the CBJ. While I think they'll certainly improve as the season goes along, I just don't foresee a playoff run this year.

BTW, I was able to buy a 6 game pack in the lower bowl this time around.

TIME TO CARRY THE FLAG BABY

Oh, wait, tonight was only preseason :paranoid:

Still, can't argue with a 5-2 win...looks like some of our kids (Sestito, Sigalet, Gabriel, Calvert) played pretty well, and Garon had a nice first outing. No Nash or Mason it looks like.

Sheldon Souray to the CBJ?

Most of the chatter the past couple of days involves a possible move to Columbus, which makes sense on multiple levels. The Blue Jackets have long had a need for a power-play quarterback; their general manager Scott Howson came to Columbus from Edmonton and has deep ties to the Oilers organization; and they too have a salary-cap problem by the name of Mike Commodore that they?d probably be willing to swap the other way.

Nice to have it back. It's weird to still be following baseball when it gets underway.

Kris Russell is out for a while with a sprained knee. Will probably miss the beginning of the regular season.

Jackets & Oilers still talking about Sheldon Souray. Some mention of Commodore for Souray. I'd probably take that deal.

Plus I think we'd get a prospect or draft pick.

You'd bet your ass you'd take that deal.

Cap relief + removal of a defensive liability at times + gaining a power play QB = good deal

Honestly I can't believe Edmonton is looking to do it.

No reason to play Nasher or Mason this early. Both are going to get huge ice team this year, one pre-season game won't matter.

I think Edmonton wants out because of his negative attitude with them.

yeah I just completed reading the full story.

the numbers really aren't that far off, it's just that Souray's contract ends sooner than Commies....

but still, having a true PP blue-liner would be a nice addition.

Pretty exciting preseason game tonight. Klesla took a lot of hits. Couple hard ones too.

Thought Kyle Wilson looked good. Kubalik had a hat trick, his positioning was great for all three goals.

Pens scrubs and grinders looked solid. Some bad defensive play, but when Alex Goligoski is the second best d-man playing on a given night, defensive play isn't going to be great. Thought Wagner (#20) for the Pens was fucking awful. But this team is going to be reeeaaaally tough to play against. So many grinders.

EDIT: Three more things, only one game-related.

1) Officiating was fucking awesome. Best officiated game I've ever seen. Every penalty I saw was called. Now if they could do that in the regular season..

2) Dude who kept getting up and moving around the section I was in and the section beside me, and who was talking shit to the Pens fans around when the CBJ went up by a goal, fuck yourself. You were talking shit to kids. You moved around at least 5 times per period to sit in different seats. Why? You moved around in two different sections. Getting up during play = bad. Don't go anymore.

3) I saw a dude wearing a Michigan jersey at a Jackets game. Almost wanted to punch him in the back of the head so he could get the attention he wanted.

Fun night.
